Here at LEGO® HQ we absolutely love stories about fabulous friendships, so we’re super psyched about the new Wicked movie.
By now you probably know about the film’s star-studded cast (Ariana Grande as Glinda! Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba! Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard!), that it takes place in the magical Land of Oz, and that it tells the tale of a formidable – if unlikely – friendship between Glinda and Elphaba.
We’re celebrating the release of the movie with no less than four LEGO Wicked sets. Four sets designed with girls and boys aged 7+ in mind, but absolutely perfect for Wicked fans of all ages.
Surprise! A hidden code in every set
Each set is based on an iconic moment from the movie and is full of the fun and gorgeous details and features you expect from us – but these LEGO Wicked sets also include a secret QR code that unlocks online content and original music from the soundtrack. Kids can sing while they build, dance while they play... Now that’s what we call magic.
Glinda, Elphaba & Nessarose at Shiz University
We begin our journey with the girls’ first meeting at Shiz University. This set lets kids put together the university building, decorate it with flowers and explore its nooks and crannies – which include two balconies, a bookstand and Elphaba’s journal.
We know Glinda loves to make an entrance, so we’ve made sure to include her beautiful sailboat, complete with a gold-trimmed sail that’s hinged so kids can steer it to shore. And that’s where Glinda meets Elphaba and Nessarose for the first time: the three characters’ mini-dolls are included in the box. Think of the stories that will be built once you bring it home.
And if that wasn’t enough storytelling material, the set is packed with little creative accessories, such as flowers, potions, a sticker for Nessarose’s chair... It’s creative, it’s customizable, and we couldn’t love it more.
You remember the Wicked line: “pink goes good with green”, right? They also click good together, as you can see in this two-figure set. Get ready to build, play, display, rebuild, replay, display again... Honestly, we haven’t been able to stop going through the whole cycle since we got our hands on it.
This set is all about the two main characters: you can build them, adjust their poses (yes, they’re articulated) and accessorize them: there’s Elphaba’s broom, hat and bottle, Glinda’s tiara, wand and purse, flowers and leaves, and a window that looks over the Land of Oz. The hidden QR code takes kids online, where they can get inspired to play alongside original tracks from the movie.
It also comes with buildable bases, so kids can turn the figures into beautiful display pieces while they’re not playing with them. This one is more of an age 10+ kind of deal, so it’s perfect for slightly older kids – and when we say kids, we mean you as well.
Glinda & Elphaba’s Dormitory
Look, obviously we don’t play favorites with our LEGO Wicked sets, but this one may be just a little extra special – after all, the dorm room is where the unlikely friendship between Elphaba and Glinda begins to grow.
The Dormitory set is a buildable trunk. You can open it to reveal a super-detailed replica of the girls’ shared room at Shiz University. And it’s so cute! The girls’ mini-dolls wear pajamas, but there’s also two daytime outfits included so kids can switch it up. And when you close it, the set forms a travel case decorated with Glinda’s flower and Elphaba’s green bottle.
What else? Wands, a spinning stand with perfume bottles, drawers that open and close... and a hidden QR code that leads kids to some seriously fun online content, designed to dial up their building-and-playing experience with the original movie soundtrack. Here’s a cool tip you can share with your kids: if they click the mini-dolls onto the spinning stand, they can make them ‘dance’ along! We told you this one was special...
And we book-end this tour of the magical LEGO Wicked world with a visit to Emerald City. Everything about this set is awesome-sized: the features, the details, the mini-dolls... Again, not playing favorites, but – wow.
Some of the most iconic scenes from the movie happen in Emerald City, from the dramatic scene where Elphaba confronts the Wizard, to the girls’ emotional farewell and Elphaba’s escape from the tower on her broomstick. And this set is suitably iconic, with its stunning three-story tower and its dazzling array of details: the candy apple stand, the Wizard’s air balloon and giant model head, a bicycle coffee cart, shops to explore...
The set also comes with an all-star cast of 5 figures from the movie: The Wizard, Madame Morrible, Fiyero, Glinda and Elphaba. The hidden QR code will lead kids to even more unique LEGO Wicked content, which is a really fun way to bring another dimension to their playtime. And to top it all off, it’s so much fun to build with the free LEGO Builder app: kids can zoom in and out and rotate the set in 3D while they build.
