Okay, so you might have heard that our new LEGO DUPLO trains encourage early coding skills in toddlers. But how exactly do they work?
Well, obviously it begins with our push-and-go trains and various expansion sets that’ll see kids traveling through tunnels of their own construction, over bridges to a range of valuable skills, and connecting them to brand-new places and people along the way!
But, the real magic starts when utilizing some of our very special action bricks…
Placing one of our multicolored action bricks on the track triggers a wide range of actions when the train passes over them, depending on the color – from sounding the horn to putting the train into reverse.
The big, exciting takeaway is that as your child learns how to place these action bricks on the track and predict what they do, they are essentially practicing a form of basic coding. What better way is there to give your toddler a fun introduction into one of the most important skillsets to learn as an adult?!
Aside from this, all LEGO DUPLO sets are designed to boost kids’ IQ (cognitive, physical, creative) skills and EQ (emotional, social) skills. Each LEGO DUPLO train set is no different.
On the IQ skills side, as kids learn different ways to combine those multicolored action bricks, they get the perfect chance to practice their grasp of colors. Furthermore, you can help them as they predict what each brick will do; a crucial cognitive skill for them to learn! The train tracks also test out kids’ hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
From a creative point of view, they’ll be learning how to operate their DUPLO train set in a way that is unique to them, giving them total license to explore. And because there is no limit to the ways they can combine and create, it encourages more replayability than ever before.
And this is where our EQ skills come into play. Kids build up resilience as they keep on using the action bricks to figure out the ways of the track. It requires kids to focus on the task at hand (another important skill) and even manage their emotions (oh look! Another important skill!) if things don’t go as they predicted, the first time around.
Each LEGO DUPLO train set is designed so it can easily be combined with every other LEGO DUPLO train set, allowing kids to effortlessly expand their journeys as far as their tracks (and imagination) will take them!
You can extend the fun even further with our optional companion app! Kids can now control their train via Bluetooth®, including operating the lights and blowing the horn using on-screen buttons.
What’s more, they can record their own voice and sound effects, which can be activated on the track using the special purple action brick! There are also a host of engaging activities and LEGO DUPLO train games to explore to help kids boost their IQ and EQ skills.
