How to Make a Cozy Home in LEGO® Fortnite®

In LEGO® Fortnite®, your village is the ultimate expression of your personality. From the buildings you create to the minifigures you befriend, your virtual home should be unique to your game and your creativity.

But building buildings and befriending buddies is just the beginning. It’s how you decorate and style your home that truly embeds your personality into your LEGO Fortnite world.

In this article, we’ll build and customize the coziest home we can together, walking you through the process and giving you suggestions along the way. Let’s get aesthetic!

Start With a Blueprint in a Sandbox World

Being a LEGO Fortnite homesteader is easiest in a Sandbox Mode world, where you don’t have to worry so much about enemies and gathering materials. You could absolutely do all of this in a Survival Mode world, but it’ll be much, much more difficult. Because we’re looking to build up a cozy home and decorate it, not to survive a huge challenge and fend off nighttime Skeletons, we started by creating a new Sandbox Mode world. That’s what it’s here for!

The other big benefit of a Sandbox Mode world is that you’re allowed to build everything you want from the first moment in your game. Every blueprint and resource is available in unlimited quantities. You don’t have to earn your way into a mansion by chopping down trees or gathering stones. You can just find a blueprint in your Build menu and start construction.

Look around the Grasslands biome where your game almost certainly began, searching for a pretty hill nearby. Walk up to the top, and picture living there. Rolling, grassy hills are great places with awesome views.

We decided to build the Spacious House blueprint, which you can access in the Build menu under the Builds tab and then in the Pleasant Park section. It’s a large, yellow, two-story house with tons of interior and exterior potential. It’ll take you a few minutes and 24 satisfying, clicky stages to complete.

When you’re done, walk around inside and picture what you’d like to see in there. Where’s a good place for your kitchen? Your bedroom? A bathroom? What looks good to the left or right, as you walk in the front door? Then it’s time to start building.

The easiest way to get started is to decide what a room will be. For example, building a kitchen looks like this:

  1. Deciding on a good place for the kitchen
  2. Adding furniture like counters and a sink around the outside of the room
  3. Adding decorative items on top of furniture and on the walls

The same would be true for a bathroom. What do they need? Start with the essentials like a toilet and a bathtub, and before you know it, your room will start telling you what it wants to have. If you’re stuck, browse your menus, which are full of ideas. Or head over to your own bathrooms and kitchens and borrow ideas from the real world!

Now it’s time to decorate! You’ll be using the same general Build menu to furnish your home, but the best little touches live in different menus.

Start by adding some lights. That way, you’ll be able to see when the sun goes down. Go to the Build > Furniture > Lighting menu, and scroll down to the Wall section where you’ll find (you guessed it!) lights that go on walls. Pick a style that you like, and add a few lights on the walls in the room that you want to start decorating in. Don’t worry. You can always remove them later if you want. All it takes is a handful of punches or swings with a weapon or a pickaxe.

Next, think about furniture. The kitchen might be the easiest place to do this. When you walk into an unfurnished Spacious House, you’ll see a nook ahead of you and to your right. That’s a great place for a kitchen. Browse the Builds > Surfaces menu, and you’ll find several options for your kitchen counters. Don’t forget to add a fridge, which is in the Builds > Storage menu. Inside of the Builds > Decorations > Appliances menu, you’ll find a dishwasher. Keep browsing and building. Before you know it, you’ll have the outline of a kitchen!

We’re not quite done yet. It’s time to do something to make it really look like a kitchen: Add some clutter! You’ll find that in the perfectly named Builds > Decorations > Clutter menu, which is full of items that look great on kitchen countertops, including Baking Utensils and Iron Cookware.

These are the kinds of details that turn your house into a home like no other.

Now follow your heart to the next phase. You’ve got a kitchen. Make a place for people to eat, placing tables and chairs nearby. What will your minifigure buddies do while you’re preparing dinner? Maybe make a lounge area with plush couches and chairs and plenty of books to read. It’s your home, which means that there are no wrong answers.

Every building in LEGO Fortnite already looks awesome. Our job now is to make our Spacious House unique to us and our personality.

Decorating the outside is all about the Build menu’s Decorations tab, where you’ll find so many items to mix and match.

Start the same way that you did inside by lighting up the area. We’re building a cozy home, not a creepy haunted house, so add some lights around the entrance. We added one Wall Exposed Bulb on either side of our front door to cast an inviting yellow glow at night. We also added a Wall Light Round up above our second-floor windows for a bit more diffuse lighting to the area. You can use whatever style speaks to you.

The area leading away from your front door is also a great place for some outdoor lighting, which you can find back in the Build > Furniture > Lighting > Outdoor menu. Imagine creating a series of streetlights that lead visitors into your cozy home!

Now it’s time to decorate!

Head over to the Build > Decorations > Houseware menu, and you’ll find tons of items. We started with something that every house has: a Garbage Bin, sitting on the side of our house away from the door because we don’t need our pals smelling any of that stink!

Experiment with some other decorations that seem like they would fit with the theme of your outside corner. We found pretty quickly that it looks best to place small, medium and large items next to each other. And they’re easy to find because LEGO Fortnite decorations tend to be categorized based on their size in menus.

Keep exploring the menus. That’s what the best decorators do. There’s inspiration everywhere.

Consider creating outdoor areas just like you can create indoor areas. Check out the Builds > Sculptures menu to find a diverse array of items, including a Llama Statue – Gold that makes a great gathering place centerpiece! Put some chairs around the campfire. Make even the outside of your house into a home.

Now that you know the basics, you can make anything – even pre-made items – an expression of your unique creativity. Experiment with different buildings. Make opulent bedrooms. Build a shack in the woods. Explore your menus, and ideas will appear. Do whatever your heart tells you to do and make the best world you can. In LEGO Fortnite, the only limit is your imagination.
