Introducing Cozy Mode and Expert Mode in LEGO® Fortnite®

LEGO Fortnite pampers with Cozy Mode and challenges with Expert Mode

LEGO Fortnite has always let players control the details of the worlds they create, offering experiences for everyone, no matter how they want to play. Sandbox Mode gives players infinite bricks and endless possibilities. Survival Mode tests players’ skills and challenges them to craft and survive.

And now there’s even more variety in the worlds that you can bring into existence!

Less than a year after its release, LEGO Fortnite expanded with two new modes that offer twists on the beloved originals.

In this story, we’ll introduce you to Cozy Mode and Expert Mode, teach you about their awesome tweaks and, explain the automatic setting changes that make them unique.

LEGO Fortnite Cozy Mode

Cozy Mode is like a hybrid between Sandbox and Survival, automatically adjusting a bunch of settings to customize your experience and make it generally a little easier to get started and keep going.

While you can change the settings manually, here are the defaults for this Mode:

  • Enemies = On, just like in Survival Mode, so you’ll still have to defend yourself to survive.
  • Enemy Difficulty = Easy, a new difficult setting that offers a more moderate challenge than other modes.
  • Storm-Wild Enemies = Off, meaning that you won’t have to worry about LEGO Fortnite’s most difficult enemies.
  • Hunger = Off, so you won’t have to worry about constantly eating.
  • Temperature = Off, so freezing and overheating are problems of the past.
  • Stamina = Off, which means that you’ll never have to stop and catch your breath as you run.
  • Player Elimination = Respawn, meaning that you’ll come back to life if your health drains to zero.
  • Drop Inventory Upon Elimination = Off, so you’ll reawaken with all of your tools, weapons, charms and, other items.
  • Friendly Creatures = On, so you can adopt a pig or sheep – or just enjoy their company as they graze across the countryside.
  • Friendly Damage = Off, so no allies will be able to hurt you.
  • Villagers = On, which means you can make minifigure friends and invite them to live in your settlements.
  • Power System = Off, so the vehicles you ride around in don’t need batteries. They just magically move forever!
  • Village Animals Removed On Elimination = Off, so your cuddly friends persist, just like your inventory.

When you start a new Cozy Mode game, you will meet a friendly minifigure friend designed to ease you into a new play style. You may, for example, meet Bright Bomber, who welcomes you to her existing village and assigns you some tasks. She hasn’t figured everything out yet — buildings need to be built, materials need to be gathered, items need to be crafted — so it’s your job to spend a while helping her build, gather and recruit. It’s almost exactly like starting a new village of your own but with a little bit of a head start. That’s what Cozy Mode is all about!

Expert Mode

Expert Mode takes Survival to the extreme with settings designed to test even the most experienced LEGO Fortnite players.

Like Cozy Mode, Expert Mode tweaks your world’s default settings, but the only one you can change is Friendly Damage. Here are the details.

  • Enemies = On
  • Enemy Difficulty = Hard
  • Storm-Wild Enemies = On
  • Hunger = On
  • Temperature = On
  • Stamina = On
  • Player Elimination = Permanent
  • Drop Inventory Upon Elimination = On
  • Friendly Creatures = On
  • Friendly Damage = Off, though you can toggle this to On if you want
  • Villagers = On
  • Power System = On
  • Village Animals Removed On Elimination = On

Every enemy in Expert Mode is stronger than in other modes. Expert Mode introduces Storm-Wild variants of certain enemies, which are ultra-difficult versions of LEGO Fortnite’s foes. They have more health and deal more damage while moving faster.

  • Storm-Wild enemies include:
  • Storm-Wild Blaster
  • Storm-Wild Hermit Crab
  • Storm-Wild Brute, Storm-Wild Frost Brute and Storm-Wild Sand Brute
  • Storm-Wild Stone Roller, Storm-Wild Frost Roller and, Storm-Wild Sand Roller
  • Storm-Wild Scorpion, Storm-Wild Frost Scorpion and, Storm-Wild Sand Scorpion
  • Storm-Wild Spider and Storm-Wild Sand Spider
  • Storm-Wild Wild Wolf, Storm-Wild Bone Wolf, Storm-Wild Frost Wolf and Storm-Wild Sand Wolf
  • Storm-Wild Skeleton
  • Storm-Wild Scoundrels

Expert Mode also makes losing your Hearts permanent. There is no coming back. When you’re out, you’re out for good.

Unless that is, you’re carrying a Totem of Return, which allows you to wake up with your backpack equipped. But the Totem of Return breaks upon use, and you’ll need to craft a new one. You can unlock the recipe for the Totem of Return when you add a Storm Core to your inventory, and you can collect a Storm Core when you defeat Storm-Wild enemies.

LEGO Fortnite Expert Mode also includes three trophies to collect, one for each biome.

  • Grasslands Trophy for defeating Storm-Wild and then interacting with Grasslands Village at Level 10.
  • Dry Valley Trophy for defeating a Storm-Wild Sand Brute and then interacting with a Dry Valley Village at Level 10.
  • Frostlands Trophy for defeating a Storm-Wild Frost Brute and then interacting with a Frostlands Village at Level 10.

LEGO Fortnite always offered something for everyone, and now it offers even more variations for those who want more casual and more challenging experiences. Check out Cozy and Expert modes, and see how you like them!
