As a **Digital Deployment Manager**, **Casey**, makes sure everyone works together seamlessly to build something amazing. He likens it to constructing a LEGO® castle with friends. Together with his colleagues, he’s one of the super-helpers who plans and organises our resources.

“Developing our own digital tools with key stakeholders in the room is vital as we constantly look to evolve our ways of working to set ourselves up for success in the future. That’s kind of what my role is all about. Bridging the gap between different stakeholders I work with in the US, Canada and Latin America, and our Product teams responsible for delivering quality solutions.

“Day to day, this involves cross-functional collaboration, setting expectations, and crafting clear deployment plans focused on a people-first approach.”

“The expertise of our team extends beyond product development into comprehensive process management. We do our best to prioritise understanding the purpose and expectations of each tool before it’s released, emphasising the ‘why’ and ‘how’ to ensure successful implementation.”

One aspect Casey found exciting was the sheer diversity of skills within his team. But he had plenty of other reasons to join us besides this.  

“I came here mainly because of where I am in my life; I’ve recently married with plans to start a family in the not-so-distant future. Having worked in small tech startups, I wanted a stable environment where I could also prioritise life outside of work. The focus on work-life balance, continuous improvement, and professional development was exactly what I was looking for.”

“I soon learned that everything you hear about the LEGO culture, leadership, and mission is true. The transparency and involvement in decision-making are unmatched. My leader has been incredibly supportive, encouraging me to try new things and providing guidance based on his experience with the company.” 

Innovation is an ever-present need in Casey’s role.

“The most exciting project I've been part of has been supporting the definition of our tool deployment process. My role was only introduced a couple of years ago. This means I have the freedom to shape it according to the unique needs of our region. Fluidity helps when you’re developing a process from start to finish. It’s been incredibly energising.”

“There’s a genuine level of trust and respect too. Even if it leads to failure, we’re encouraged to experiment. That makes being here all-the-more exciting.”

“The most challenging aspect of my role is understanding the complexities of a plethora of homegrown and third-party solutions that support various functions. On top of that, having a solid foundational understanding of what each function does is essential for successful deployments.”

Casey also points to the spirit of outside-the-box thinking that thrives here.

“Even if it leads to failure, we’re encouraged to experiment too. That makes being here all-the-more exciting. There’s a genuine level of trust and respect too, for personal needs and the freedom to prioritise life outside of work. This makes focusing on my role easier, knowing I have the flexibility to address life’s demands when needed.”

So does he ever get to play himself - and what does the future hold?

“One of the most fun moments at LEGO was volunteering at our International Day of Play celebration. Seeing children play with our products and experiencing our "Learning through play" mantra in action was an unforgettable experience. It was a day that allowed me to see firsthand the impact of what we do here.”

“As we prepare for our US Hub relocation to Boston, I’m excited about the opportunities ahead. You can feel the energy in our office and there's a shared vision for the future. The LEGO Group does an incredible job of helping us imagine new possibilities and encouraging us to bring our ideas to life.”

**Imali Hettiarachchi, Senior Brand Strategist (London),** co-chair of WiN in EMEA, stresses the importance of ensuring women across intersections of identities find their voice in the community:

“As co-chairs, our goal is to create a true sense of belonging - where every woman, regardless of background, feels seen, supported, and part of a community. As a global company, the women of the LEGO Group are incredibly diverse, and bringing an intersectional lens to our work is essential.”

Our Diversity & Inclusion Task forces are also helping to bring International Woman’s Day to life across LEGO locations. Engaging colleagues around the world, they are spotlighting learning and awareness and connecting colleagues through local events and activities. 

Campfires have taken place in our Singapore and Shanghai Hubs, and a leader panel discussion at our factory in Monterrey, Mexico. More events are planned during March.

Driving inclusion locally

As part of our mission to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow, we support parents and caregivers to spend more time with their children at an important stage in their early development. Our policy supports all parents across the LEGO Group.

For all parents

From their first day here, all LEGO® colleagues are offered extended paid parental leave, no matter their family constellation, location, role or how they identify. Our policy covers 100% of their salary throughout the whole period. During their paid leave, parents will also accrue merit increases and bonuses and will collect vacation days.

From day one

We offer 26 weeks of paid leave for the primary caregiver and 8 weeks for the secondary caregiver on full pay. Parents decide who takes the role of the primary caregiver, and we encourage all our colleagues to take their time to build a bond with their family.

Paid parental leave

Launched in 2023, our Menopause Programme has been designed to offer learning and signpost support to those colleagues who need it. Now available in the UK, Denmark, Singapore, China, the Czech Republic and Western Europe countries with the Americas following later in 2025.

Designed to support the reintegration of parents into the workplace, this pilot offers salaried colleagues returning from childcare leave, flexibility on Best of Both based on team priorities and workload.

For many of our roles, we also offer ‘Best of Both’, our hybrid work approach which provides the flexibility to work from home up to two days per week, and from the office for a minimum of three days per week.

International Women’s Day 2025 – Gender equality is a shared journey for us. 🛣️

International Women’s Day 2025

**Graphic Designer**, **Shelly**, is one of the creative minds behind our eye-catching promotional materials. It’s her job to create a vital connection between LEGO® sets and our customers. After six years with us, she still brings a sense of playfulness and imagination to everything she does.  

“The work I do not only showcases the fun of LEGO bricks but also tells the stories behind each product. It's my job to spark excitement in the curious minds our sets are designed for.” 

Shelly was discovered at a D&AD New Blood event, and she’s been with us ever since.  

“I never imagined I’d get the opportunity to work for such a cool company, especially coming straight out of university. I started as a Junior Designer and, since then, I’ve progressed to a Graphic Designer role with more creative freedom.” 

“The LEGO Group takes pride in catering to everyone, so it’s no surprise that the culture they’ve managed to create within the company is one of care and inclusivity.” 

“We also have lots of fun initiatives too, like Fabulab Fridays - where you get a day at the end of each month to do something you’re passionate about. I try to use this time to learn a new skill, like 3D or animation, or just take some time out to draw.” 

Shelly is part of a Design Team with nearly a century of combined experience. Together, they brainstorm ideas and create the visuals that bring our joyful spirit to life.  

“As a team, we’re constantly pushing boundaries and finding opportunities to innovate, in order to make the environments we create as exciting as possible. We each have our own superpowers, but we thrive in coming together and working towards a common goal. I feel super lucky to be part of a talented team where we are all passionate about the work we do!” 

For Shelly, one of the most fun parts of the job is doodling. It allows her to tap into her illustration background while bringing a touch of whimsy to her work. 

“One of my favourite projects to work on was a LEGO Doodles brief for our socials. I was asked to illustrate LEGO elements and share the process as I went along. The idea was to encourage fans to create their own art pieces and to use LEGO bricks in a different way. Being able to bring my own sense of creativity to what I do is really important to me.” 

“I often have to imagine myself in the shoes of the people we’re designing for, in order to create something that resonates. It brings me back to the memories I have of playing with LEGO bricks as a child and has reignited my own passion for building.” 

“Some of my favourite sets are the Ideas Grand Piano and Typewriter, but I’m always looking to add to my collection to bring a bit of fun to my living space!”

For **Amy**, being a Playground Builder is about creating an environment where colleagues feel empowered to grow, connect, and contribute. As a **Skills Development Manager** at our new manufacturing site in Virginia, she’s helping shape the foundation of a huge operation, using the Leadership Playground framework to guide the way.

"I knew I had to be part of it"

When Amy first learned that a LEGO® factory was coming to Virginia, USA, she made a bold statement to her husband:
“As soon as the press release hit that the LEGO Group was coming to Virginia, I told my husband – ‘I am going to work there.’ It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am so grateful to be able to bring my skills and passion to our mission.”

As a Learning and Development specialist, Amy saw an opportunity not just to take on a new role but to help build an entire workplace culture from the ground up. The Leadership Playground felt like a perfect fit.


Rooting a New Site in a Strong Culture

Amy immediately recognised that the Leadership Playground wasn’t just another corporate framework—it was something deeply woven into our DNA.
“When I learned about the Leadership Playground in my onboarding, it was an ‘a-ha moment’. Here is a simple, approachable, flexible, yet deep and challenging leadership framework that is not from an outside consultancy, but homegrown and developed from the core values of the LEGO Group.”

She knew that for the Virginia site to thrive, these values had to be embraced from day one.

Small Moments, Big Impact. 

For Amy, creating a thriving culture isn’t about grand gestures—it’s about everyday interactions.
“When I think of the daunting task of building a culture, it really comes down to how you interact day-to-day, not grand sweeping gestures. The Leadership Playground is alive and well when we hear statements like, ‘I am going to be brave here and share my idea,’ or ‘I have a curious question so I can better understand the root cause.’ These conversations are commonplace at the LEGO Group, and you hear them daily.”

This mindset shift has helped foster an environment where colleagues feel comfortable taking risks and learning together.

"As a new colleague, helping to build a brand-new site, each behaviour is critical. We are naturally curious as we test and learn, we must stay focused as so many priorities compete for our attention, we must be brave as we speak up and take risks to do something unprecedented.”

One of her proudest moments came when she and her team took an innovative approach to onboarding new employees.
“When we were bringing in our first core team of leaders for the packing team, a small but mighty team had to work across locations and time zones to create an onboarding experience that would set our new hires up for success in their roles and in the culture of the LEGO Group. Being brave, we took the foundations of what exists and reimagined what could be.”

The results spoke for themselves.
“Our participants shared that it was the best onboarding they had ever had, they knew they made the right decision, and they couldn’t wait to build a career right here at the LEGO Group. Mission accomplished.”


A Community of Builders

Amy believes that the Leadership Playground is a key part of what makes the LEGO culture so special.
“The responsibility of fostering a culture as unique as the Leadership Playground cannot fall on one or even a few. Many inspired and engaged builders must bring their diverse experience, perspectives, and energy to make it real.”

By modelling the behaviours of being brave, curious, and focused, Playground Builders create an environment where people feel valued, supported, and encouraged to do their best work.

For **Dlnya**, being part of the LEGO Group means more than just a digital role—it’s about connection, inclusion, and making the most of our culture of curiosity and bravery. As an **Associate IT Engineer** based in Copenhagen, she is passionate about making a difference through collaboration and embracing the values that define us.

"I knew I would be in good hands”, she tells us. “I had heard only great things about the brand’s work ethics and how colleagues are supported—not just in their professional development but also in terms of personal care, health, and family. On top of that, as I was starting my career in Denmark, I wanted to work somewhere I would be truly seen for who I am and where my unique life experiences would be valued as an asset.”

That search for a place where she could thrive led her to discover the Leadership Playground, an initiative that encourages colleagues to be brave, curious, and focused while building a more connected and innovative workplace. This inspired Dlnya to become a Playground Builder.

“I did this to develop my leadership and collaboration skills,” she explains. “To have an opportunity to develop other skills besides technical skills was a great opportunity. It was also about connecting with my colleagues in a broader sense and learning from them.”


This role has helped her do just that while embracing new ways to give and receive feedback, as well as ensuring her team maintains a strong focus on their shared goals.

**"Being brave resonates with me the most."**

Dlnya embodies the key values of the Leadership Playground, but one in particular stands out—bravery.

“Each of the behaviours resonate with me in different ways but being brave stands out the most. It shows up in my work when I step out of my comfort zone to learn new technologies and skills, or when I initiate difficult but necessary conversations that bring value to my team.”

One of her most defining moments of bravery was stepping into the unknown to tackle outsourcing challenges.

“I reached out to colleagues from other teams to learn from their expertise,” she recalls. “It required bravery to step outside my comfort zone and ask for help, but it was incredibly rewarding. By connecting with a wider group, I gained valuable insights and solutions that helped me overcome challenges and grow both personally and professionally.”

**Building a stronger, more inclusive environment at the LEGO Group.**

Through her efforts as a Playground Builder, Dlnya helps foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and psychological safety within her team and beyond.

“All of this helps build trust and strengthen connections within the team, creating an environment where collaboration thrives,” she explains. “By fostering psychological safety, it encourages open communication and the sharing of ideas, which drives innovation.”

One of her most impactful initiatives was facilitating discussions around psychological safety.

“I facilitated a meeting to understand how the team feels and where we are in that regard,” she says. “Additionally, taking some actions for a better and safer environment.”

**A sense of joy and purpose.**

Beyond professional growth, Dlnya finds joy in the relationships and experiences she has built since joining us. Through playful initiatives and shared experiences, the Leadership Playground has strengthened her sense of belonging and connection.

She believes that Playground Builders play a key role in encouraging inclusion and collaboration across the LEGO Group.

“They actively contribute to creating a culture where everyone feels included and able to share their different perspectives. Building trust is key to forming meaningful connections, and trust can only thrive in an inclusive culture.”

**"The most Important aspect is creating value."**

For Dlnya, being a Playground Builder is about more than personal development—it’s about empowering others to contribute to shared goals and fostering an environment of collaboration, inclusion, and growth.

After three years with us, Dlnya has discovered a deep sense of connection, empowerment, and inspiration in her work.

“I feel more connected to my colleagues and a stronger sense of belonging to the LEGO Group. Participating in various campfires and workshops has also empowered me with valuable knowledge, tools, and methods to grow and make an impact. It would be fair to say that I feel inspired too: particularly in terms of the collective passion and dedication of my colleagues. We are stronger when we work together, and this makes positive change possible.”

Through her work, Dlnya is helping to shape ways of working that truly embody the spirit of play.

Creating bridges through play: Meet Dlnya.

For Demand Planning Manager **Stephen**, his journey as a Playground Builder started as a surprise—to him and to those around him.

"It felt like something others wouldn’t expect me to do, when I explained it to friends and family, they said, ‘Seriously, you’re going to be doing what!?!’ I liked that it gives me a chance to explore facets of my personality that don’t always come out in my day-to-day role"

What started as an unexpected opportunity quickly became a passion for Stephen. He found that the Playground Builder program gives him a framework to bring energy and focus into his interactions with others.

Creating Everyday Leadership Through Small Moments. One of Stephen’s key contributions as a Playground Builder has been embedding Leadership Playground principles into the everyday rhythm of his team.



“I’ve built multiple Playground touch points into our weekly meetings—starting and ending with a moment of reflection, sharing ‘things to be proud of,’ and using ‘Even Better Ifs’ feedback to refine how we work together. I’ve found that a ninja-like, stealth approach works better than directly referencing the Playground all the time.”

By normalising these practices, Stephen has cultivated an environment where his team embraces curiosity and growth naturally, without it feeling like an obligation.

"Curiosity is My Driving Force"

Of the three Leadership Playground behaviours—Being *Brave*, Being *Curious*, and Being *Focused*—curiosity is the one that resonates most deeply with Stephen.

“We are rolling out a new global forecasting tool, and throughout the process, I’ve been asking questions both for clarity and to challenge assumptions. It’s not just about the technical side—it’s about understanding the bigger picture and making sure the solution works for everyone.”


Curiosity has also helped Stephen forge stronger relationships within the organisation.

“In my interactions, I make an effort to get to know people beyond their job description. That human connection strengthens how we collaborate.”

Building a Culture of Engagement and Inclusion. For Stephen, the Leadership Playground is as much about creating an inclusive, engaged culture as it is about leadership development.

“I’ve led site-wide initiatives and campfires to bring people together, helping different teams connect and evolve the way we work. The best part? Seeing those ideas take on a life of their own.”


Stephen believes that the Playground Builders are instrumental in shaping the culture of the LEGO Group as a whole.

“As I’ve been known to say—the time when you are too busy for the Playground is the time when you need it the most.”

“One of the most rewarding moments was seeing the small changes I introduced become embedded in how we work. The ‘Even Better If’ mindset has helped shift us away from criticism and toward continuous improvement. It’s not about pointing out what’s wrong—it’s about building on what’s already great.”


This perspective has made a lasting impact, not just on Stephen but on the teams he works with.

“The best ideas, the best culture—it all comes from people coming together, bringing energy, and challenging each other. The Playground Builder program has shown me that leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about creating the right environment where answers can emerge.”

For Stephen, being a Playground Builder has reinforced a simple but powerful truth: together is always better.

**Merrick** is driven by his passion for education and belief in the power of hands-on learning. With over five years’ experience with LEGO® Education, he plays a crucial role in ensuring that schools have the resources they need to inspire and educate the next generation of learners.

“I used to work for an education offering at the Museum of Science in Boston for six years. That’s when I fell in love with education - specifically STEM-focused learning.”

"My job is to make sure that LEGO Education products reach classrooms and children all over the United States. It’s a varied role which means working with teachers, salespeople, and warehouse folks. Essentially, it’s all about helping students of all ages learn by using their hands to build, create and have fun in the process.”


"I believe that by providing children with the tools and resources they need to explore, develop, and problem-solve, we are equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century."

Beyond the logistics aspect of Merrick’s job, there is plenty more to challenge him:

“Solving problems, building relationships, ensuring customer satisfaction; each day brings new opportunities for me to learn too. Whether it’s helping a teacher find the right resources for their classroom or troubleshooting a shipping issue, I'm always looking for ways to make a positive impact.”

"I love connecting with people from all over the country. It's a great way to find out about different communities and understand how our products are being used in the real world.”


“Each year is a chance to set new goals, take on new responsibilities and work with the changes that are going on with our product line and objectives. The way we do things changes regularly in order to meet our growth goals and that means taking on new responsibilities. That could mean anything from figuring out how to tweak operating procedures to be able to handle higher volume or fine-tuning our capabilities in terms of greater reach.”

As we mentioned at the outset, Merrick is a firm believer in the power of play to foster creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills. This is something he applies equally to himself and others. 

"Play is not just for children. It's an essential part of the human experience that can bring joy, inspiration, and new perspectives.”


"I have LEGO Education sets at home, and I make a point of trying out new lessons and building projects regularly. It's a fun and engaging way to learn about our products and keep my creative juices flowing. The tactile feel of bricks clicking together really feels great. It’s soothing in a way, I think.”

Knowing that he is contributing to a brighter future for children, Merrick gets huge satisfaction from his role.

“Seeing the impact of hands-on learning in the faces of children at the Museum of Science in Boston was amazing. When I was having a rough day, I always found energy in walking through and seeing the kids interacting with all of the exhibits and the excitement and joy in their eyes. Working here, gives me a similar sense of fulfilment. Plus, I have the benefit of knowing I’m invested in a business that makes that difference on a global scale.”

We have a big appetite for fresh talent. **Claus** and his team make sure this is satisfied. Together, they introduce young talent to the workplace, and nurture them to develop new and existing skills. 

“Our Academy is the first point of entry for young people coming directly from primary school. Making sure this talent has the best possible start is down to us - and it starts with creating the best onboarding experience ever.” 

“We’re a launch pad, essentially. The right start is everything and first impressions count. So if we succeed as we should here, we create a priceless future pipeline - whether it’s for design or mould-related areas. It’s all about getting the mix right between education and exposure to the day-to-day business. This means young people can contribute meaningfully.” 

Working with young people is something that Claus finds highly motivating. 

“To me, it’s a gift. Developing young talent pushes my buttons. It gives me an insight into their generation, the challenges they face and the positives they can bring.” 

“Right now, we have a pilot project running around neurodiversity. It’s fascinating. I’m learning so much, as is our training team. We have very high hopes for what we will get from it.” 

In his 30 years here, Claus has seen and learned a lot. 

“I’ve been at the LEGO Group a long time. But it still feels like a privilege to work here. I think the biggest milestone I’d point to was establishing this Academy back in 2015. It’s been my greatest experience and an ideal opportunity to make the most of my background as a specialist, a leader and a trainer.” 

Over time, Claus feels he’s been expertly supported, but he’s also been very driven personally. 

“It’s inspiring to work so closely with a new generation. It keeps me on my toes. They help me keep on top of the latest trends and technologies, and this is vital to what the Academy does. Working with neurodivergent young people has been especially rewarding. It makes me so proud to see them go on and succeed. It makes a big impact on the organisation.” 

“Working here goes beyond a 9 to 5 commitment. To be successful in my role, I have to work really hard, but the payback is more than worth it. What could be more rewarding than giving young people the chance to succeed and grow. That’s why getting out there and finding new apprentices with my team is always so energising.” 

Claus has an endearing pride in his team of trainers and an unshakeable belief in his 36 apprentice superstars. 

“I sometimes say I have Bricks in my veins. We’re so invested in what the Academy stands for and what it achieves. The impact we have on young lives is enormous. This makes it a huge responsibility too. Fairness, ambition and collaboration are key to this. We are more ‘LEGO®’ than ego.”

Playful learning that’s fun for everyone is one of **Micha's** passions. Writing is another. She’s able to combine both in her role at LEGO® Education. Here she is to tell us more:

"So… my job is about bringing learning through play into as many classrooms as possible. That way, we can help all students succeed. Simply by spreading the joy of learning, we can help schools meet academic standards in a fun and engaging way.”

“I’m the daughter of a former elementary Special Education educator and someone who is personally passionate about diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Education is so important in this respect. I believe that all students should have the opportunity to experience learning through play, regardless of their background or learning style.”

"I'm constantly looking for new and innovative ways to reach educators and showcase the value we can bring. Whether it’s through webinars, email campaigns, our website or other channels, my objective is to create a buzz around our products and inspire educators to bring them into their classrooms."

The marketing campaigns Micha helps to create are specific to certain regions or states within the US. It sounds like a demanding role. But she’s in no doubt it’s one that she very much enjoys.

“My favourite aspect of what I do is writing. For me it’s a form of play. I love experimenting with sentence structure, tone, sound and other literary devices. Clarity and emotional connection are my key goals. It helps to put myself in my audiences’ shoes. Empathy is all part of the fun puzzle I’m solving by being as creative as possible.”

"I'm also fortunate to work with such a talented and passionate team," she says. "We're constantly bouncing ideas off each other and finding new ways to engage educators and students."

However, it’s not just educators and students that Micha speaks to through her work.

“Regional Marketing Managers also help create resources for our Sales team to participate in and promote global campaigns. Things like World Play Day and Rebuild the World. I’m absolutely at my happiest writing, working on visual advertisements, or brainstorming with my colleagues. The creative energy in my team is contagious"


So, it must feel special to see all this fun and hard work come alive in the real world.

“Absolutely. Pressing ‘go’ on a new campaign, seeing an event or out-of-home advertisement come to life is always satisfying. The same goes for hearing from educators or students. When I hear about the impact our products have made, it makes everything I do worthwhile.”
