Sean Astin takes a tour around the new LEGO® Icons The Lord of the Rings: The Shire™ set

A quaint, pleasant community of admirable hobbits in the heart of Middle-earth™. While great kings wage war, elves live forever in magical forest realms and orcs plot evil schemes, in the Shire™, life is always peaceful and idyllic.

It’s a place where many people have wished to live. While we can’t grant that wish, we can now help you bring a little bit of the Shire into your home with this magical new display set.

And who better to give us a tour of the new LEGO® Icons The Lord of the Rings: The Shire set and show us some of the secrets and movie references than Sean Astin, who played Samwise Gamgee™ in the movie trilogy? After all, Samwise always loved the Shire, and he inherited the famous home under the Hill after Frodo™ departed Middle-earth.

So, keep your feet as we take a tour of the LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings: The Shire set.

There’s always been a Baggins living here under the Hill…

We’ll start with a wander through the well-kept garden to the iconic round front door, perhaps one of the most famous front doors in all of fiction and one that leads to one of the most charming homes.

Step inside, and you can almost smell the tea brewing and the bread baking as you pass through the richly furnished interior with three rooms, including the entrance hall, study and parlor.

There’s a fireplace that fans might remember as the place where Gandalf and Frodo first uncover the writing on The One Ring™. You can recreate this scene using the interactive function that transforms a burning letter into The One Ring.

As you pass through into the study, you might remember that this is the place where Bilbo writes his book There And Back Again. This book is featured along with some other artefacts from Bilbo’s travels, including the mithril vest and Sting the sword.

Today is my one-hundred-and-eleventh birthday!

The Lord of the Rings trilogy begins with Bilbo Baggins’ eleventy-first birthday party. And what a party it is!

There are spectacular fireworks, lively music and a memorable and surprising speech (you can even make Bilbo vanish at the turn of a dial, just as if he were putting the ring on his finger!)

This set allows you to throw your version of the party. It recreates the superb setting under the wonderful Party Tree and features a party pavilion for your guests and a birthday cake for dear old Bilbo.

The entertainment is provided by Gandalf the Grey™, who comes complete with a horse and a cart loaded with his famous fireworks.

There’s even a firework dragon figure for scaring your guests!

This 2,017-piece set is as complex as it is rewarding to build. While you’re working on it, you might want to put a sign on the door stating that you’re not to be disturbed. Might we suggest: “No admittance, except on party business”?

“I don't know half of you half as well as I should like…

... and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.” Bilbo may have been hard to please, but we’re certain that even he would love the line-up of minifigures that we’ve assembled for this set.

There are nine in total, including hobbits Bilbo Baggins™, Frodo, Mrs Proudfoot and Farmer Proudfoot.

There’s a Gandalf minifigure to provide the entertainment, mischief and mayhem from the double act of Merry and Pippin, and love is in the air with Rosie and Sam.

It is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life

The Lord of the Rings remains one of the most beloved stories ever told. It has millions of dedicated fans worldwide, and new ones are added every year.

It’s also been the inspiration for some very popular LEGO sets.
