As someone once told me, “There are only two things you can control in life – your attitude and the effort you put in. If you focus on working hard and being a positive person, good things will tend to happen in your professional career.”

“My team and I are responsible for promoting and growing the US business for LEGO Education. The main reason I love my role is because I get to be part of bringing hands-on STEAM education to school districts across the US - and, for that matter, classrooms across the world. This plays a critical role in improving classroom engagement and preparing students for their future careers.” 

“We are a team of teachers, PhDs in education, edtech enthusiasts, and more. Working here feels special because all of us share a commitment to advancing hands-on learning for students everywhere.” 

Awais is clearly an enthusiastic advocate for our approach to learning. But what has this taught him personally? 

“Working with so many smart people can be very humbling. It’s also a great opportunity to learn. I feel very lucky to have a team of such talented people around me. They can always be relied upon to come up with a different perspective, to see things from a different angle I may not have considered.”  

“Our feedback culture is incredibly powerful too. It’s powerful because it’s designed to build up rather than tear down. One colleague commended me on a presentation I recently delivered, but they also suggested I could benefit from slowing my pace a bit. It was so politely and constructively given, and I appreciated it so much. This is the kind of thing that makes us all grow if we listen and act on it.”

“At less than 250 people, we’re a relatively small organisation. But we’re part of one of the most loved global companies. I think this has very much deepened my appreciation and respect for the importance of being a brand steward. It’s also heightened my sensitivity to cultural differences of colleagues around the globe who I work with daily.” 

“What’s more, as a person of colour in a leadership position, I have an opportunity to show students that we serve, many of whom themselves are people of colour, that LEGO Education values diversity. This is clear both from the people that we hire and the schools that we work with.”

This sets the tone for the meeting and tells everyone that this is a safe space to speak up and share questions and creative ideas.”

“Ultimately, I’m proud of hiring and managing a great team that is building new marketing capabilities for our business.” 

And what does he think makes this possible? 
 
“Imagination. Without a doubt. Thinking big with no limits or boundaries. This allows us to achieve the maximum impact with the schools, students, and teachers we serve. But it’s about collaboration too.” 

“Our booth setup at the annual educational conference, ISTE, was a great example of both in action. Everyone had input into this, and I was delighted to see that ours clearly excited the most attendees. It was the only one to attract educators and students, as well as the attention of some admiring competitors.” 

So before we leave Awais to get back to his work, does he have any final words to share? What might someone find surprising about what you do? 
 
“That I still roll up my sleeves and do the work I would expect my team to do? After all, we’re building something new for the business and each of us needs to wear many hats. Oh and how about this: imagine no longer having to work hard first before you play hard. Imagine your work is play. Just imagine that.”

As a **Senior Engineering Manager**, Morten's role goes beyond just overseeing code. He's a conductor of imagination.

He's also keen to point out how his work has impacted his own development.

How does playful learning connect with software engineering?

We’re a close-knit team at LEGO® Education. Each of us has a crucial role to play in our products’ journey to customers. Making sure we get everything right the first time is all thanks to **Simran** and her team.

"My team plays a pivotal role in the final step of the customer ordering journey," Simran explains. "We take over after the order is placed, ensure accuracy, resolve any issues, and work closely with the warehouse to get the products out the door as quickly as possible."

But it’s not just about processing orders; Simran and her colleagues also focus on building solid relationships and providing exceptional customer service.

"We’re the face of the company. After the customer decides to purchase from us, we answer questions, provide recommendations, and offer support through the entire process. Customer satisfaction, attention to detail and a proactive approach are key."

"We go above and beyond to ensure that orders are accurate and delivered on time. This also means working with supply planning to reserve inventory for large orders and offer expedited shipping or split orders when needed."

Supporting the sales team by providing them with valuable data and insights is another important aspect of Simran’s job.

"We're constantly looking for new ways to align across all teams and provide them with the information they need to be successful. Embracing a curious mindset, being patient, and continuous learning helps with this."

**Joshua** brings a wealth of experience to his role as at LEGO® Education. His impressive track record is both wide and varied. He’s been a teacher. He’s coached teachers. Today, he draws on his background as our **Curriculum Specialist**.

"My passion has always been to make learning fun and impactful for students. Taking on this particular role at this particular organisation felt like a natural next step in my career. It allows me to combine my love for education with my belief in the power of play."

Joshua's role here is both multifaceted and dynamic.

“I help demonstrate how LEGO Education lessons align with the learning standards across all 50 states in the US. I help to produce materials that support our sales team in conversations and relationship building with school districts. I also get to produce content to help our users learn with all LEGO Learning Systems solutions. I even get to collaborate with our Product Experience team in Denmark.”


"I get to wear my 'school hat' often. My experience in the classroom informs my work, allowing me to create resources that are truly relevant and useful for teachers and students alike. It’s something I get a lot of satisfaction from.”

Joshua is particularly proud of his ability to help teachers create engaging and playful learning experiences for their students.


“Seeing our work in schools is incredibly meaningful. Having students and teachers share positive experiences with the products is very special. Sometimes one can feel removed from our mission being in an office. Being around when our products are in the hands of the curious minds they were designed for, well, that’s pretty special. The joy of learning right there before your eyes.”

Collaboration is at the heart of Joshua's work. He collaborates with colleagues across the globe, bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise to develop innovative solutions for complex challenges.

With her background in urban education policy and experience working in classrooms, **Alysha** brings a unique perspective to her role as an **Account Manager**. It’s also proved to be the ideal way to explore a passion she shares with us: bringing equity and excellence to education. 

"My goal is to empower educators to be successful in the classroom. I work with them to develop plans, build confidence, and ensure that LEGO® Education sets are appropriate for their students' learning needs. I believe that every student deserves the opportunity to participate and succeed in STEM, regardless of their background or learning style."

Alysha's passion for education and social-emotional learning drives her work at LEGO Education.

"I've seen first-hand how LEGO Education solutions can engage students and promote positive behaviour. I'm particularly proud of the fact that our products can reach students who may struggle in traditional learning environments."


A creative and consultative approach to her work, Alysha believes, is crucial to her success. This enables her to work closely with educators and understand their unique needs and challenges.

“Tailored solutions are what’s needed here. That’s why I'm always looking for new and innovative ways to use our products. When a customer asks a question I don't have an answer to, it often leads to new discoveries and even more creative applications. With this in mind, it helps that our products have a 'low floor, high ceiling,' so they can be used in a variety of ways to meet the needs of diverse learners."

Alysha is also passionate about professional development for educators. To this end, she leads workshops where teachers can learn how to effectively implement LEGO Education solutions in their classrooms.

"I love seeing the excitement and enthusiasm that teachers bring to these workshops. It's a reminder of the power of collaboration and the importance of lifelong learning.

"My role is not simply about selling products; it's about building relationships and making a positive impact on the education community. I'm fortunate to work with amazing educators who are dedicated to their students and passionate about their work. That’s so inspiring. 


Alysha is also justifiably proud of her contributions to LEGO Education's US DEIB Council:
“Focusing on promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the company and the broader education community is so important. I believe that every child deserves to see themselves reflected in the learning materials and experiences they encounter. We’re very much committed to creating inclusive and equitable learning environments for all."

Empowering educators, engaging learners: Meet Alysha 😎

As a student, Software Engineer, Bianca, was inspired by her experience of working with the LEGO Group. It became her dream to enable curious minds to feel how she had felt. She joined us at LEGO Education in April 2021. This is her story.

“I first came to Denmark in 2015. I moved here from Romania to study at VIA, a university in Horsens. This is where I had my first experience of programming. With the help of an NXT robot, I learned how to follow a moving object. That was the moment I realised how big of an impact LEGO sets can have in students’ lives. Perhaps more importantly, it showed me how easy it is to learn complex topics while having a lot of fun.”

Since then, she has been driven to contribute as much as she could to the next generation of products. Why? Quite simply because she wanted to share with children the sense of wonder she had while learning how to programme a robot.

“I'm super proud to say that my dream came true. I got accepted as a Junior Software Engineer at LEGO Education and I’ve not looked back since. To begin with, I was working on the development of Spike Prime and Spike Essential - key learning tools in the area of Robotics and STEM.  

“This is what gets me out of bed every morning: the fact I can impact children's lives in a positive way with projects I've helped to develop. It also helps that I’m part of a superhero team with developers, designers, content creators, and others. Each of us brings our own unique powers to create something truly awesome. Ultimately, we’re helping children learn and making teachers’ jobs become a bit easier.” 

So what does this involve?

“I use programming languages that bring applications and websites to life. Technology changes so quickly. Which is great! But it also introduces new problems that we may have not foreseen. It’s my job to solve them and ensure that the curious minds we inspire have a positive digital experience. This means creating trouble-free, stress-free applications that take the pressure off teachers. So, they can do what they do best - teach, engage, inspire.”

Creativity is a key part of what we do as a business. But how does Bianca bring this to her work?

“Well, by embracing the iterative nature of software development. This allows me to improve my code incrementally which, in turn, drives innovation in what I do. Creativity comes through in helping with planning team events too - that and coming up with playful missions and activities. These inspire the team and promote trust while building better relationships. Team culture plays an important role in being a productive team!”

“It’s also there in play. Experimenting with different coding methods, libraries and tools helps me to think more creatively. I learn new skills all the time and find innovative solutions to problems. This keeps me motivated and enhances my problem-solving skills, contributing to my success in delivering effective solutions.”

Does she ever get to see her work in action and how does this make her feel?

“Oh yes, I get to visit schools and engage with both children and teachers. They learn together through playful exploration and LEGO Education products are at the heart of this. For me, it's about empowering students to explore and think critically. This is how we solve problems in fun and engaging ways. It helps prepare students for life and the challenges they may face. - what could be better than that.

“I'm proud that my work brings so much joy to the learning experience - what could be better than that.”

As a student, Software Engineer, Bianca, was inspired by her experience of working with the LEGO Group. This is her story.

Meet Software Engineer, Bianca.

Jane has covered a lot of ground in her 11 years with us. Today, she’s a Brand Engagement Manager in our Global Marketing Team. But as we’re about to find out, every role and project has been an education in itself.

“I’ve worn quite a few different hats over time but I started out as a Community Manager. I think this is where my interest in brand engagement and compliance began. As a legacy employee, I have a good understanding of the business as a whole and a great connection to the LEGO Group.

“Being part of this larger organisation gives us a lot of opportunities. Our target market may be different in education but we still benefit from the overall creative processes. Imagine you have a favourite LEGO set, one that's not just fun to build, but also helps you learn something cool, like math or science. I guess that’s the key difference.”

So, what can you tell us about your day-to-day role? How would you bring this to life?

“I'm part of an amazing team. We are here to build the LEGO Education brand to its full potential. In order to do that, we need to shift everyone’s mindset from defining the brand as a set of guidelines to being the brand as a community together.

“Right now, I’m working on contributing to our organisational cohesion and team effectiveness by driving the development of a shared brand culture and accountability.

My role is a truly cross-functional role and requires a particularly strong Emotional Intelligence and a genuine drive to enable others.

“I build and facilitate the onboarding module for new colleagues from a brand perspective, ensuring everyone is provided with the right knowledge about the brand, our ways of working, and operational eco system to set them up for success. This is an important aspect of the overall company culture building that I will drive as an ongoing engagement program and activities. Because brands are made by people this program is build on our brand character “The Curious Connector”.

So after all this time, we’re interested to know what keeps Jane inspired and what’s next on the horizon:

“Well, one thing that comes immediately to mind is our annual PLAYDAY. This is always an energy booster. Secondly, engaging with teachers and students at events and/or in classrooms always gives us some fascinating insights into our end users and what kind of wins and struggles they go through using our products. 

As for what the future holds, I’d like to pursue my innovative and creative development. This means I get to engage with colleagues from different teams and backgrounds. It’s always refreshing to find new ways of working.

“Finally, one of the biggest milestones for us this year is to start building a culture based on our brand values. I can't wait to experience the impact of that.”

One final question we must ask is what makes Jane proudest:

“I'm proud of being part of a unique team of educators and innovators that build hands-on learning experiences that engage and excite students. Bringing Learning Through Play to the classroom makes me believe that education really can change the world when learning is fun and impactful. Collaboration is crucial. Whether it’s work or play. What’s the difference? Let’s build and learn together.”

If we’re proud of one thing at the LEGO Group, it’s our people. Between them they have many lifetimes of experience and insight to bring to what we do. Andy is one of them. He joined us as a Senior Learning Design Manager in August 2022. Ever since, he’s invested nearly two decades of teaching expertise in our products. 

“I’d lived my whole life in Stoke on Trent in England before I joined LEGO® Education. Making the move to Denmark was a big decision - particularly as I’m married with two children. But it’s proved to be my dream job and a great decision for us all. I get to impact the lives of everyone who gets hands-on with our products. When curious minds engage with our products, they learn something. And when we learn something, we enrich ourselves. What’s not to love about that?”

Andy’s background as a secondary and further education Maths teacher has proved to be the ideal preparation for this role:

“I help to design the learning direction of future LEGO Education products. It’s all about making sure that they’re both super-fun and exciting, as well as enabling kids to learn. I’m able to bring my teacher brain to these activities ensuring learning experiences match up to high demands of curriculum coverage while having the magic of the LEGO brick. I contribute creative ideas to the team so, together, we can inspire young people to build their imagination and explore their potential with learning through play.”


It sounds like a lot of fun. How does this play out in Andy’s day-to-day role:

“We get super hands on with the bricks and when we have play sessions with kids, we get to see how our ideas are landing. Children really are our teachers. It is great to work so closely with my colleagues and really focus in on designing a unique learning experience that can have a lasting impact…. And, yes, we do have lots of fun role playing and coming up with learning ideas. We hope this comes out in the end product too.  

“I’m also a Playground Builder and a Play Agent. This means injecting the spirit of play into our everyday work. Not only does this make doing what we do enjoyable; it also helps all of us succeed. It’s good to be playful.”

As an educator, it’s Andy’s role to draw on his experience to champion learning. But what has he learned himself since joining us:

“For one thing: you have to learn to accept failure, fail fast and then learn from it and move on… the more you fail the more you know you're going to learn from it! Embrace it… it is the essence of designing products and is central to who and how we are a as a business. It’s also been insightful to get involved with the design team and be so hands on creating learning activities with the bricks.

“To be fair, this has been a huge learning curve for me. I have become much more aware of the intricacies and balances of designing for a large organization and not just my own classroom. As my role has developed, I feel integral to the design team; but this speaks to our wonderful spirit of collaboration.

“Our mission means everything to me. I love what LEGO Education represents and the impact it has on kids. After spending many years using our products with kids and adults, it’s an amazing experience to be on the other side designing future products. It’s my job, what can I say, but it never really feels like work.”

If we’re proud of one thing at the LEGO Group, it’s our people. Between them they have many lifetimes of experience and insight to bring to what we do. Andy is one of them. He joined us as a Senior Learning Design Manager in August 2022. Ever since, he’s invested nearly two decades of teaching expertise in our products. 

Learning is for everyone. Teachers included. Just ask Andy.

Every business needs a plan. For Praneetha, the key to this lies in the numbers. As a Business Controller, the story they tell enables her to keep us on track. But, as she’s discovered, even data has time to play.

So… where shall we begin?

“Well, my journey at LEGO® Education only began in August last year. But I’ve worked for the LEGO Group since 2019. I have a masters in Economics and Management from Aarhus University and started here as a student worker in Western Europe Market Finance. When I finished my studies, I got a full-time role in Global Cost Management. Then I moved to LEGO Education Finance, where I am now.

“I work in the Financial Planning & Analysis team. Essentially, this focuses financial planning, budgeting and forecasting. It always comes down to the numbers, right? Does this leave room to have fun?

“Oh sure, of course. It may not seem obvious, but we have to be creative in our storytelling. Numbers aren’t completely boring, you know. How we interpret the data and understand what it’s saying can be incredibly absorbing. Besides, we still have time to play and have fun beyond this. 



“We’re very collaborative. It’s important that we communicate cross-functionally. That way, we get to ensure that financial considerations are integrated in our strategic and operational planning. We’re often heavily involved in process-optimizing initiatives. We try to understand how to support our colleagues in their day-to-day work to enable them to focus on how we reach children.

“Beyond this, play connects us all in our team meetings. We get to learn about one another and the wider organization. Sometimes we have initiatives where we can test new LEGO Education products. They’re amazing. It’s so interesting to see how they unlock creativity and innovation. This helps us to understand how detailed our products actually are, and what impact they have on children.”

And what, we ask, does Praneetha see as the key challenges of her role:

“In our business, we have to respond to rapidly changing market conditions. But as we become more automatized, this gives us more room for manoeuvre and the ability to support colleagues in making their own tasks more automatized. We’re constantly evolving.


“And, you know what, the idea that our work is helping to inspire children by creating better learning experiences is incredibly motivating. It does make a difference. We’re playing our part in making a positive impact on education by leveraging the versatility and creativity inherent in LEGO products. We’re helping to make fun learning through play a reality by making education enjoyable and interactive.

“For me, it’s a joy to come into campus every morning. I love the fact that by optimizing processes, our team is doing its bit so that LEGO bricks can be integrated into school curricula. We’re part of a crucial transformation in education. That’s got to be worth getting out of bed for every day.”
