"The global focus of my role means I oversee the sourcing of key services across multiple regions, including Denmark, the US, India, Singapore, and Shanghai. We collaborate closely with corporate functions to source consulting, legal, HR, and other critical services, always with a key emphasis on helping our stakeholders succeed, while maximising value for the organisation and safeguarding the LEGO® brand. But it also means fostering a culture of play within the team.”

"Our job can be demanding but also incredibly rewarding. No day is the same in Procurement and there is strong purpose in knowing we can protect the bottom line of the organisation to enable reinvestments in other areas of growth. In addition, we play an important role in protecting the brand. Whether it’s ensuring compliance with legal standards or managing data privacy and ethical considerations; especially around sensitive areas like child protection, every decision we make is driven by our commitment to the bigger picture.”

“We like to bring play into the procurement process. During one super-competitive tender, we handed our suppliers some LEGO bricks and challenged them to build something that represented their proposal. It was fascinating to watch as people were taken out of their comfort zones. But it sparked creative thinking and a deeper connection to our brand."

This playful approach applies equally to how Nicola and his team work internally.

“I’m a big fan of our ‘leadership campfires’. These give us the chance to explore essential skills like curiosity and courage. In procurement, we’re constantly testing the market for best practices and innovation, so it follows that we need to be brave to challenge the status quo and drive change.”

“We’re having to navigate a rapidly evolving technological landscape, not just for the services we source for the organisation, but also for how we operate as a function."

“We have embarked in a digital transformation where we are looking to automate more of the repetitive tasks so that our team can focus on higher-value activities like scouting and innovation, managing supplier relationships and creating deeper trusted business relationships partners with our internal stakeholders so that we can work as One Team.”


Sustainability is another key area for Nicola, who acknowledges the complexity of integrating sustainable practices across global procurement. 

"It’s an interesting challenge. ESG is not something one company can solve alone - it requires cross-functional collaboration and a shared commitment. It’s an exciting opportunity for Procurement: we are a function which is uniquely positioned to orchestrate an ecosystem of relationships inside and outside the LEGO Group. There is a strong human factor in this job: it’s our opportunity to bring people together, foster relationships and create something bigger than the sum of its parts.”

“Doing things that haven’t been done before comes very easily to my colleagues here. Many organisations struggle with innovation, but here I see that for my colleagues it’s the most natural thing. There’s creativity in action every day. That we’re here to do new things, whatever shape they may eventually take – a product, an experience or a marketing campaign.

“In my long career before joining the LEGO Group, I’d successfully shaped big brands and delivered business results, but the portfolio of tools at my disposal were limited. Having worked here now for over two years, I’ve had the chance to closely observe the many many tools it takes to build a successful brand with this kind of longevity. “Leading the brand communication strategy for our 90th-anniversary campaign was incredible. Particularly because of the impact it had and also because it stretched in many wonderful ways across every part of the brand experience. It was also such a huge privilege to be able to celebrate a brand of such stature while charting a path for its future. It’s not every day that you get to do this kind of work.

“Becoming a mother 9 years ago shaped how I saw the world – it showed me the very same every day things but from my incredibly creative, curious and fearless son’s lens. He asks the best questions and leaves me with the most impressive answers. At the LEGO Group everything we do is with children in mind. Learning from children and how they see the world teaches me the most. Here at the LEGO Group we always say ‘Children are our role models’ and it shows up in our work every single day. “I got to attend my very first ‘Play Day’ last year. I’d never experienced anything quite like it! Imagine playing all day with your colleagues, watching everyone hop, skip and build shoulder-to-shoulder. It served as a reminder of the joy and value of play – and as grown ups it’s a reminder we need often. Play Day is one of the most meaningful traditions in the company that stems from our values, that we hold so dearly. In our team meetings we always make room for play. Even our meeting rooms have play prompts, because how can we possibly get to incredible things unless we start with play. 

“One of the most rewarding things about my job is that I get to create new things with teams from very diverse areas of expertise. A typical day can include working with the LEGO Foundation, LEGO House,  LEGOLAND, LEGO Education, design teams, content teams and more. I can’t think of a job where you get to build alongside such incredible talent and share in the responsibility of building such an iconic brand. Everyone here wants to do their life’s best work. When you’re working to build on a brand that’s so strong and successful, you have to strive even harder to make a difference and leave a legacy through your work. 

“We’re doing our best to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow. That’s a really valuable mission. One that made it very easy for me to make the decision to move to a new continent with my family in tow. And it’s a decision I’d make again in a heartbeat."

For **Pablo Banda**, this is his day job. So every day he knows he’s making an investment that not only works for him, but will endure way into the future.

“The short version of my job title is **Digital Finance Senior Manager**. In longhand, I’m a **Finance Partner** in **Digital Technology for Data Office and Cyber Security** areas, as well as driver for Value Framework - which basically means I lead the overall governance to ensure we drive value- in every sense of the word - from our digital investments. Sounds complex, right? Well, it can be. But doing what I do with the freedom and flexibility that enables me to do it well - and for a valuable outcome- that’s so rewarding.

“It may surprise some people but what I do is fun. This is what happens when there are no rules. that’s how it is with my colleagues. We share the same values but we have the freedom to work towards solving problems in any fun creative way we could possibly imagine. We meet; we brainstorm on how to solve pain points; no rules, no bad ideas, just sharing. 

“The empowerment I have to suggest and make changes on a global agenda is very real. The curious thing is that while I’ve spoken of these grand schemes and huge ambitions, I know that it feels more like a home than a corporate giant. It just feels right, somewhere I belong.

“I have been with the LEGO Group for over 4 years now. After three years in Mexico, I relocated with my wife to Denmark for this role. The business went above and beyond for us to do this. Providing cultural guidance for my partner who, at the time, had no job so it was harder to adapt, this shows how deeply they care. Now, we’re able to collaborate for the same company and experience the same values, which is simply amazing. 

I get to work on a global scale where I drive change and bring hearts and minds together. Working at this strategic level means looking at the big picture and how Digital Technology enables better business outcomes. I’m part of a team that’s making a difference working agile, constantly looking at how to deliver value drops, focus on where value can be harvested. We design and execute processes and governance to ensure agile resource allocation based on value for the business. Alongside the culture, empowerment and awesome colleagues this journey is nothing but exciting.

“What I do demands that I use my imagination and think of the bigger picture, to truly work cross-functional. I like this. Being able to see what the future might look like and to help make it a reality. The processes I design to maximise the value of our digital investments have to be simple. This enables me to bring users on the journey. I have to imagine how they experience it. This tells me if they will embrace it. If they don’t, it won’t succeed. 

“I get to collaborate with so many different mindsets and experience so many different cultures. This is an invaluable playground too. You just have to engage with the right spirit. Curiosity and an open mind.

“Sustainability is central to the future of the planet and the LEGO Group. Given that, ultimately, so many of our products are designed to engage children, it’s vital that we embrace our collective responsibility to make sure the planet is well looked after. I like to think that setting this example will play a small part at least to inspire children, including my own, to do so too.

“Orchestrating the sustainability strategy and program is immensely rewarding for me. Not least because it gives me such broad exposure to the business and real connectivity to its future direction. This is one of the most important and transformational agendas that the enterprise is pursuing right now.  It presents us with a massive array of challenges wherein there are also untold opportunities.

“Like many companies, we’re in uncharted new waters when it comes to sustainability. There is so much to consider.  New materials, new business models, new ways to reduce our environmental footprint, new ways to increase how many children we reach. To deliver impact across these varied agendas takes imagination and comfort with uncertainty. We’re having to suspend a “business as usual” mindset.



“It’s why delivering the PLAN25 Sustainability strategy was such a huge achievement for us. It was co-owned by Corporate Affairs, Operations, Product, Marketing & Design, Finance and others – and I was fortunate enough to play a central role in that effort. With such a wide-ranging program, engaging with a broad group of colleagues to debate directions and jointly put forward recommendations is paramount. As a learning opportunity it was off the charts. It also speaks volumes about what we can achieve through effective, open-minded collaboration and vulnerability.		

“Another key focus for me is bringing strategic sparring to the People Operations & Development and Corporate Affairs leadership teams. This enables us to elevate and connect the organisation’s key priorities. For me, this has been a golden opportunity to gather subject matter expertise as I get to engage with world-class experts in these areas. The same goes for being exposed to how the leadership team stewards the whole ship. It is fascinating and inspiring to witness.
