The playful strategist behind our ads: Meet Beau 🚀

You know those quirky ads you love to watch on YouTube? Who do you think makes them? How and Why? Over to you, Beau.

“I never grew up with LEGO® bricks. This was something I learned to love when I was an adult watching the LEGO movie. I’m glad that I did. Now I understand why grown adults can justify to the their partners owning our Millenium Falcon. It’s because it’s just mind-blowingly cool.”

It’s this kind of passion that Beau brings to his work here.

“I guess I’m just really lucky. I get to make stuff that (hopefully) makes folks smile. Our goal is pretty simple: to get you people as excited about LEGO products as we are! It’s about always trying to tap into that inner child, that sense of wonder and playfulness that makes the LEGO experience so special."

“I’m still a kid at heart. So that helps. I’ve spent longer here than at any other place in my career. And the opportunity just landed in my lap. Since then, I’ve climbed the ranks from brand strategist to brand strategy director.”

Being able to be himself is something that Beau sets a lot of store by. Why is this, we ask, and how does it inspire him?

“I think it’s rare for a large organisation to tell you to bring your whole self to work - and actually mean it. Not only that, but actively encourage it too. It’s a smart move really. It all ties into the spirit of play."

"We all need more play in our lives. If we don’t have it, we just end up becoming boring, cynical adults. We actually get to have a work-life balance too. It's all about keeping that spark of play alive, both in our work and in our lives."

“Besides, to come up with ideas you want to play with yourself, you have to actually be playful yourself. This is when you do the stuff you’re most proud of.”

Can he share some of these highlights with us?

“Oh sure. Anything that helps curious minds discover our amazing products is an achievement, I think."

“One of my proudest moments was launching LEGO VIDIYO. In case you’re not familiar, it’s a product that enables children to create their own music videos and dance clips using a range of LEGO sets. There’s an app that goes with it too. So it’s a great way to explore creativity."

“Coming up with the strategy and bringing the campaign to life was a real thrill. I also came up with the initial foundation for the LEGO Space campaign. It was pretty special to see that blossom."

With all this said, we imagine it must be hard for Beau to pin down what he likes best about being here.

“Listen, my job is awesome. Working here is a blast. We have an amazing team, a playful atmosphere, and the freedom to be ourselves. Plus, we get to play with toys all day. Who wouldn’t love that."

“But most of all, listening to children is just so refreshing. I learn from my colleagues too, here in the LEGO Agency, of course. With young, curious minds, it’s different somehow. They teach me something new every single time. Finding the energy to keep pace with their thinking keeps me on my toes. That’s why I’m here.”
