A Data Scientist's journey through innovation and play. Meet Camilla 👋

As our Data Science Director, Camilla’s experience of working here has been an incredible two years filled with data-driven discoveries, playful problem-solving, and a whole lot of childhood nostalgia.

“I vividly remember my own childhood LEGO® memories – begging my dad for a LEGO Castle as a reward for good grades. That early love for building and creativity stayed with me, and now I get to witness my own children experience the joy of play.”

“It was only when I stumbled on a LinkedIn job posting for a data science role that I even thought about working here. I was immediately intrigued. Obviously, I knew the business had an amazing reputation for quality and creativity. This resonated with my own values, and the job itself aligned perfectly with my career aspirations. So it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.”

So, tell us more about what your role involves.

“As a data scientist, my team and I dive into vast amounts of data to uncover patterns and insights. We use these findings to make informed decisions about marketing and personalisation strategies. Ultimately, it’s about enhancing the customer experience and driving sales. This makes it a dynamic and rewarding area to work in, and allows me to constantly learn and innovate.”

“One of our recent projects focused on understanding the LEGO Insider Program – a community for dedicated LEGO fans. This insight has helped us tailor our marketing efforts to create more personalised experiences for our customers.”

Camilla goes on to describe what it is that makes working here so special for her:

“Our commitment to fostering creativity, learning, and family connection truly speaks to me. In a world dominated by screens, LEGO bricks offer a tangible, hands-on experience that sparks imagination and brings people together. I feel proud to work for a company that promotes these values.”

“What’s more, we really are encouraged to think outside the box. Experimenting and even embracing failure as a learning opportunity is all part of this. This culture of innovation has allowed me to evolve in my role, constantly adapting and refining our approach to data analysis.”

But what about personal development? Does she feel she has been invested in?

“That’s very much a priority here. There are so many resources for provided for continuous learning. It’s hugely encouraged. We're empowered to pursue our interests and explore new areas. If it’s a benefit to us, it’s seen as a benefit to the company.”

“One of my favourite aspects of our culture is the emphasis on play. Whether it's brainstorming creative solutions to challenges or participating in our annual "playathon" (where we tackle fun data projects), playfulness is woven into our work. It's a refreshing break from the daily grind and keeps us motivated and engaged.”

“My journey has been nothing short of amazing. I'm excited to see where the future takes us as we continue to innovate, play, and connect with LEGO fans around the world. Who knows, maybe one day I'll even find that childhood LEGO Castle in my mum's attic.”
