LEGO® Fortnite® Parents’ Guide

LEGO® Fortnite® Parents’ Guide

Since its debut in December 2023, LEGO Fortnite has been growing and changing. And things just got a lot bigger and more exciting.

Today, LEGO Fortnite is more than a crafting-survival game. It’s an umbrella term and its own category within Epic Games’ Fortnite for a series of family-friendly LEGO games and experiences available for free. And as things continue to expand, one thing remains the same: our mission to empower play and creativity in a safe and secure environment for kids.

In this guide, written for parents of LEGO Fortnite players, we’ll explain the expanding LEGO Fortnite suite of experiences, how we can work together to help keep players safe, how to play with friends in LEGO Fortnite experiences and show you how LEGO Fortnite has moved beyond the digital into the physical world.

Understanding LEGO Fortnite

LEGO Fortnite is really a constellation of separate but cool LEGO experiences for everyone, including kids and families, all of which are available from within developer Epic Games’ Fortnite. Where you can download Fortnite – a game available on a wide variety of platforms from video game consoles to PCs to mobile devices – you can also play the various LEGO Fortnite games.

There are three broad categories of LEGO Fortnite experiences to enjoy on Android, iOS (in the EU only), Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation, PC and Xbox.

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, previously known as LEGO Fortnite, is the game that started it all. It’s set in vast open worlds, unique to each player. Survival and Expert modes challenge players to craft and fight and build and eat to survive and thrive in challenging environments. Sandbox and Cozy modes remove most of the survival challenges and allow players to focus on exploring, experimenting and building with what amounts to a bottomless box of LEGO bricks and elements.

LEGO Fortnite Islands are an archipelago of smaller, focused experiences constructed with many of the same elements as LEGO Fortnite Odyssey. For example, LEGO Chasers vs Hunters is a competitive, team-based shooter where players battle with playful weapons in an arena inspired by Candy Realm from Season 1 of the LEGO DREAMzzz TV show. On the opposite end of the spectrum, LEGO Cat Island Adventure is a carefree, cozy experience where players visit an island full of cats to feed, pet and befriend. LEGO Cat Island Adventure, LEGO Chasers vs Hunters and other LEGO Fortnite Islands were created by the LEGO Group. Many more are available to play, thanks to Fortnite creators – players who also build their own experiences within the game. To learn more, be sure to read everything you need to know about LEGO Islands in Fortnite.

LEGO Fortnite Brick Life is the newest addition to the family, where players enter a city called Brick Bay, which is made of LEGO bricks. Players hang out and socialize, take on jobs, decorate their houses and unlock vehicles with the money they earn. Explore diverse locations like the beach, a bustling downtown, and a spooky hillside Academy.

LEGO Fortnite has something for every player and every interest.

You can play LEGO Fortnite together with friends

Each LEGO Fortnite experience is playable alone, but the best way to play the game is with friends. That’s easy to do with the built-in crossplay feature, which lets players cooperate and compete across the boundaries of consoles, PCs and mobile devices. Everyone can play together, no matter what hardware they’re using.

The LEGO Group and Epic Games have extensive parental controls that empower you to customize your kids’ experiences. You can learn more about them and how LEGO Fortnite creates a safe and secure environment in our guide to playing with friends in LEGO Fortnite.

There are many ways that LEGO Fortnite games allow for age-appropriate experiences

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, LEGO Fortnite Brick Life and each LEGO Fortnite Island includes an age rating. For players in the United States, they include an ESRB rating. For players in most of Europe, they include a PEGI rating. You can find the age rating of each LEGO experience in the Fortnite launcher. You can learn more about the parental control options and ratings in our LEGO Fortnite Odyssey parents’ guide, our LEGO Fortnite Brick Life parents’ guide and our guide to LEGO Fortnite Islands.

Fortnite offers extensive parental controls that empower adults to manage their kids’ LEGO Fortnite experiences. That includes settings for voice and text chat permissions, settings to prevent real-money purchases, settings for controlling friend requests and settings that control which LEGO Fortnite experiences your child can play based on age ratings.

You should also know that each platform or console – Android (Google Play), Epic Games, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Windows – also offers its own parental controls.

You can find detailed instructions for creating accounts and setting up parental controls in our LEGO Fortnite Odyssey parents’ guide and our LEGO Fortnite Brick Life parents’ guide.
