Jalen’s story is a testament to the power of play. From his first experience of LEGO® bricks in childhood, to his role as an Associate Key Account Manager today, he shares our belief in what collaboration and inclusion can achieve.
“Playing with LEGO bricks was how I made my first best friend. We had an entire setup in the basement of his parents' home where we built our own LEGO City. It had everything: police station, houses, fire department, schools, cars - even its own laws and currencies. It just goes to show what happens when curious minds are empowered to create.”
It’s clear that Jalen has lost none of his imagination. But these days he combines it with a talent for seeing what numbers can tell us:
"My role requires me to analyse data and develop insights. One of the ways I get to create in my work is by using storytelling techniques to convey the data in a way that resonates with our audience.”
“It’s good to know that what I do not only helps to drive business success, but it also has an impact on children and families worldwide. I’m part of sharing our message of playfulness and imagination with them.”
Jalen's passion for creating an inclusive environment is evident too - both within his role and in activities beyond it:
"I'm a big believer in the power of community. I also believe that the best ideas are generated when many minds come together. It’s what led me to suggest a team brainstorming day to my Account Director. It was a bonding experience for us all and lots of interesting ideas came out of it.”
"I’m also involved in numerous Inclusion Networks (Race, Ethnicity, and Cultural Heritage (REACH), Rainbow Builders (LGBTQ+), and Accessibility). This allows me to show up to work as my most authentic self. These groups give a platform for us all to connect, support each other, and celebrate our unique identities. It’s more than a commitment to diversity and inclusion, it’s an expression of our values as a business.”
As you might expect for someone that embraces a very caring approach to his work, there’s another aspect of what we do that clearly resonates with him:
“The LEGO Replay program is AMAZING. I love it. Basically, it’s about encouraging customers to recycle and reuse LEGO bricks. This means they stay out of landfills and continue to be played with by kids for decades to come. It’s a win-win. We get to reduce our environmental impact, but it also reinforces the idea that LEGO bricks are meant to be shared, cherished, and passed down through generations.”
