Play Discovery Internship 

Are You an Aspiring Toy Inventor Looking to Discover New Play? 

Join the LEGO® Group’s Creative Play Lab for a Paid 5-Month Internship at our Head Quarters in Billund, Denmark! 
 

Internship Dates: February 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025 

About us: 

Creative Play Lab (CPL) is at the heart of new product innovations at the LEGO Group. We experiment with emerging technologies, tinker with new tools, band together with new brands and integrate new inventions into the LEGO system of play to create the toys of tomorrow’s world. As an intern in the Play Discovery team, you will learn to use our prototyping tools to get hands on discovering new play experiences from day one. You’ll get to work across our innovation missions to support the teams in ideating, prototyping, problem solving, iterating and testing the toys of the future! 

Meet the teams: 

As a part of the internship, you will join one of our Play Discovery capability teams: 

  • Play Invention (Physical): This team works with materials like plastic, paper, card, wood and textiles to cut, glue and stitch together physical prototypes. They design new concepts in CAD and manufacture their own parts in our machine workshop to explore new physical play experiences. 

  • Play Invention (Digital): This team bridges the realms of software, physical-digital technologies and creative coding to quickly prototype and iterate on ways to find the fun in playful interactive experiences. 

  • Concept Model Exploration: This team works with existing LEGO elements (classic, technic and DUPLO) to create concept models. They integrate mechanisms and new digital and physical inventions into their designs to explore the future play potential of interactive LEGO models. 

Internship Eligibility: ​

  • Currently enrolled in full time education in an art, design or engineering discipline and must be enrolled in an educational program that gives credit for internship during the internship period

  • Free for the entire internship period from February 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025 

  • Speak English to at least a conversational / intermediate level ​

Experience with at least some of the following disciplines:

  • Sketching 
  • Digital illustration
  • 3D CAD programs 
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Textiles 
  • Workshop machines 
  • Game Engines 
  • Coding 
  • LEGO model building 

Responsibilities:

  • Push the boundaries of play by imagining new universes, creating compelling characters and constructing new prototypes to bring concepts to life 

  • Research innovative technologies, materials and toys to discover new possibilities within physical and digital play 

  • Communicate ideas through a range of media e.g. sketches, models, digital mockups, 3D prints etc. 

  • Create new LEGO elements and be resourceful using every tool at your disposal to hack, build and learn every day 

  • Explore new play opportunities by testing physical / digital prototypes to gather feedback and iterate on ideas 

  • Collaborate with a team of experienced designers, developers, engineers, artists and researchers to drive our innovation missions forward
