**Charlotte Bell** is a **Brick Specialist and Sales Assistant** in one of our stores. From a young age, Charlotte was captivated by the endless possibilities that LEGO® bricks offered. Now she gets to share that excitement with others every day. 

"Ever since I was young, I wanted to work for the LEGO Group. It’s always been my dream. When I was walking in the mall and saw that a LEGO store was coming soon, I jumped at the opportunity.

For Charlotte, the LEGO store is not just a workplace; it's a playground where creativity and imagination come to life. She thrives on collaborating with her diverse team, each of whom brings their own unique personality and perspective to the table.

"As people, we’re very different. But, as a team, we’re united in our love of LEGO bricks. So we all come together really well. It’s a lot of fun.”

The store's creative culture fuels Charlotte's passion for her work. She loves engaging with customers, helping them find the perfect set.

"I love to share my own creations or the sets I’ve built with others. Sometimes I can’t believe this is my actual job. Imagine that, being able to share your passion with others. Every. Single. Day. It’s a good feeling.”

One of Charlotte's most memorable projects was helping create the brick and pieces grab bags for the store. These enable our customers to add more bricks to their collection and enhance their build experience.

"My part was helping create them, so I was there from the start of it all. I think the fact our Pick and Build bags being so well-liked is one of my proudest moments.”

Beyond the duties of her role, Charlotte finds joy in the simple act of building with LEGO bricks. "I like to build little things that come from the Pick and Build wall and make them into our grab bags," she shares. For her, building is not just a task; it's a way to relax, de-stress, and express her creativity.

“My favourite LEGO set is the Brick Bank Creator set. I just love how its intricate details enable me to tell such rich stories. I guess it’s the same reason I love the modular series. It allows for endless customisation and building possibilities.

“Some of my favourite memories have been made at the LEGO store. I can remember visiting the Pick a Brick wall as a child and grabbing handfuls of pieces to create giant buildings at home. This one time, I built a movie theatre. It came out super-cool. I was so proud of it.”


Working at the LEGO store has exceeded Charlotte's expectations. The only change she’s really noticed is that she now helps with the Pick and Build wall more often than ever. 

“Being able to joke around with my peers and start conversations with customers about their builds is the perfect balance for me. My job is fun, relaxing, creative. What’s not to like about that?”

As she continues her journey with us, we’re sure Charlotte’s imagination and enjoyment of the play experience will continue to inspire both her colleagues and the countless customers she’ll get to meet.

“Working here is a dream come true” - Meet Charlotte ✨

Each part of the LEGO® ecosystem plays a crucial role to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow. KIRKBI occupies a special place in the LEGO® Universe. As the Kirk Kristiansen family’s private holding and investment company, its purpose is to build a sustainable future for the family ownership of the LEGO® brand through generations. Today, we’re going to explore this unique entity through the eyes and experiences of three of the people who work there.

**Damir Hamzić** is **Head of Circular Plastics Investments** at KIRKBI. In line with the ambitions of the Kirk Kristiansen family of making a positive impact on the Climate agenda, he and his team at KIRKBI are working on identifying investments, which can help reduce plastic waste and the carbon footprint associated with plastics.

“When I started in this role 2½ years ago, the Circular Plastics Investments team had just been established. It started more or less with a blank canvas, but with a clear goal to support the transition towards a world, where plastic never becomes waste, and with a clear aim to reduce CO2 emissions associated with plastics. I got the possibility to build a new investment area and at the same time contribute to making a positive impact. Since then, also with the 4th generation of the Kirk Kristiansen family taking over in KIRKBI, the ambition to make a positive difference through our investments has only grown, which is highly motivating.” 

“Along the way, we have built, and are still building, a dedicated team who all appreciate working for a greater purpose alongside making a financial return. Circular Plastics Investments is still a relatively new investment area. We are looking into innovative and first-of-a-kind projects, which have a lot of unknown factors. This makes it a high-risk area, which is both fascinating and challenging to work with. 

“Working in a niche investment area also means that it can be difficult to explain our work. Circular plastics is a technically complex beast, full of jargon and intricate processes. In this respect, KIRKBI has taken the long-term approach establishing a circular plastics investment team so we can continuously gain knowledge and competences while staying curios and adaptable. 

“On our journey, we are learning by doing by taking calculated risks and by learning from both successes and mistakes. It's the LEGO way – learning through play, trial and error, until the pieces finally click into place.

“Those clicks, those moments of solving a challenging investment case are very motivating. From identifying the right company to investigate to navigating the due diligence process with a lot of different stakeholders. And when we finally become owners, guiding these companies towards a more sustainable future is really satisfying.

KIRKBI is not only driven by the sustainability agenda - but also striving to make a better future for children:

It’s this focus on enriching children’s’ lives that strike a chord with **Mona Marie Pedersen**. She is a member of the Family Office at KIRKBI. Primarily she works as the **Head of Grant Administration** for the charitable foundation Ole Kirk’s Fond and secondly, she is involved in the LEGO® School, helping to prepare and facilitate theme-based sessions for the 5th generation owners of the Kirk Kristiansen family.

“Working for Ole Kirk's Fond has in many ways been an eye-opener to how many children in Denmark and around the world are not given the same opportunities as many of us. This has given me a profound understanding of other people’s situation, which I find extremely valuable on a personal and professional level.

Ole Kirk Kristiansen had a main principle: “We have a duty to manage what is entrusted to us to the best of our ability”. With that in mind, we strive to do our best to ensure that grants make the greatest difference and create the most impact for children.”


“My role is multifaceted. One day I'm managing the daily operations of the foundation’s secretariat, which includes board management, screening of applications and dialogue with partners building partnerships and strategizing impactful projects. Next, I'm collaborating with colleagues at KIRKBI, the LEGO Foundation and different departments within the LEGO Group. This multifaceted role with various stakeholders is very valuable to me. Working on a wide range of projects has given me a broad network of colleagues. Interacting and collaborating with them really fuels my energy and motivation. 

The roles on offer at KIRKBI are wide and varied. **Eva Bjerg Adeler** was working for the LEGO Group as Head of Labour Relations before joining the KIRKBI team a little over six years ago. Today, she’s **Head of Legal, Employment Law & Compliance**.

“My specialist area is within employment law and data privacy. However, the reality is we all need to work across lots of different areas because of the wide variety of businesses we support, be that the LEGO Foundation, LEGO House, Ole Kirk’s Fond or the family’s private activities. 


I started my career at the LEGO Group in LEGO System, but I didn’t plan the details of my career and where it would take me. Along the way, I have been open and curious to the possibilities that occurred. That has led me to my role in KIRKBI, where I can now also benefit from my network and the knowledge gained in my previous role.


“The breadth of our work demands agility; we’re continuously developing our competencies. Not only within different legal areas but, beyond that, our ability to collaborate with and understand different business areas. 
 
“Working for KIRKBI is special because we’re directly supporting family ownership. On one level, this relates to investment activities – to ensure there is a sound financial foundation for the family ownership while also supporting a sustainable development in the world. On another level, we also support the owner families’ private activities, companies, and philanthropic activities. This is very unique and highly rewarding.


I really enjoy the collaboration culture in KIRKBI. We always aim to deliver with high quality, yet we still have a lot of fun in a relaxed and informal atmosphere that I appreciate very much.

KIRKBI's Purpose with Climate Investments and Philanthropy

The LEGO ecosystem is the sum of many and varied parts. One of them is LEGO® House which opened its doors six years ago. As you may recall from our visit in June, it’s somewhere we can get close to our fans. But it’s also somewhere many continue their LEGO career journey.

Kim, Dorte and Willy are just three of our colleagues who have chosen to do so. Here, they share their experience with this up close and personal guided tour. 

**Kim Thorborg Jakobsen** has spent 16 years working within the LEGO ecosystem. He’s been at LEGO House for four of them and is now our **Head of Operations**. He begins his story where his LEGO journey began:

“I had six or seven different roles at The LEGO Group over 12 years, among others: Head of Sales, as well as Head of Operations in Nordic/Benelux. The opportunity to move through so many different roles has enabled me to learn a great deal and, in doing so, I’ve developed my competencies significantly. It’s also been my good fortune to collaborate with so many talented, hardworking colleagues and with such great leaders. It’s always amazed me how much we share values across the LEGO ecosystem.

“By 2019, I’d come to a place in my career where I needed a fresh challenge; something to push me out of my comfort zone. That opportunity came when I joined LEGO House. It was a completely new business area; a completely new way of thinking; a new set of KPIs and priorities. Becoming part of bringing the LEGO House dream to life was the ideal answer to what I was looking for.  

“I enjoy working with people. Creating results through people and teams is my driving force. Working with people is not an exact science, and as a leader, you need to adapt your style based on the task at hand or the people solving it.  In LEGO House, we’ve created one of the best-rated experiences in the world. That’s something we can all be proud of.  As a team we make this happen."

One of those people is **Dorte Dalsgaard**. These days she’s a **Relations Manager** in the Tours & Events team. But during her eight years with the LEGO Group, she’s also developed her talents starting her career as an Executive Assistant to the VP of Corporate Quality & EHS. Dorte’s role is a crucial one as she helps to build relationships both with visitors and the rest of the LEGO ecosystem

“It’s my job to serve the needs of LEGO House guests. This means spearheading a varied hospitality offering to our colleagues, customers, and partners. This includes everything from tours, events and meetings to workshops, team activities and Play Tests.

“One of the things I love most about working at LEGO House is that it's such a fun and creative environment. Everyone is always open to new ideas, and we're constantly innovating and finding new ways to make the LEGO experience even better for our guests.

Amongst the many who share Dorte’s enthusiasm is **Willy Christensen**. Eight years into his career in the LEGO House, he’s one of our **Senior Sales & Marketing Managers**:

“I started as a seasonal worker at LEGOLAND Billund. This turned into a role in the Sales & Marketing Department, and I moved with my wife - who also worked for the LEGO Group – to Billund.  When I learned that a unique LEGO attraction was opening in Billund, I simply had to work there. I was persistent and sent many emails. In the beginning, they didn’t think they needed me. But luckily, I managed to convince them and here I am 8 years later. 

“I kind of feel like my career in LEGOLAND was building up to my role here. Had I stayed there, I wouldn’t have experienced the entrepreneurial spirit of working for LEGO House. I’ve developed a different perspective and understanding through my work here.

“A creative environment like LEGO House inspires you to be creative in your day-to-day work. We can do this simply by taking a walk around and seeing how our guests interact with and build different models. Testing, trying, iterating and finally succeeding by being creative.

This is a sentiment Dorte shares:

“I'm proud to be a part of the LEGO family, and I love working with people who share my passion for the LEGO brand and values. It's an amazing feeling to be part of a company that is dedicated to bringing joy to children and adults alike through the power of play.”


Well, our tour is very nearly complete. But before we leave, we just have time for some final words from Kim:

“LEGO House is really Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen’s House. He’s been the driving force behind it, and it’s his vision lives here. This keeps me humble. I love to hear his feedback and his appreciation for how we’ve achieved it. Becoming closer to the Kirk family is a unique opportunity for me to listen and learn. This is where our values come from. They mean something that makes us somehow unique. 


“While the LEGO entities are very different, we are all bound together by what we share, our knowledge, what we do and how we do it. When colleagues move between the various parts it enriches the whole. Doing so offers a huge opportunity. That much I do know.”

Just imagine inspiring children to dream, imagine and aspire to something better for tomorrow. This is **Sanne K. Späth’s** reason for working at LEGO Education. She’s our **Global Head of Brand**. Alongside **Awais Ahsan, Head of US Marketing**, and **Ruthie Ousley, Director for Product Innovation**, she talked to us about the amazing possibilities that talent can achieve here.

Sanne started her career at the LEGO Group 13 years ago and transitioned to LEGO® Education about 7 months ago, where she could follow her purpose and develop her skillset even further.

“My transition to a new entity has made me realize even more the potential we have as a collective if we truly believe in every entity’s importance towards our shared goal of reaching as many children as possible around the world with meaningful play and learning."

One thing that helped Sanne to develop her career over time is, that she has had great people leaders over the years who recognized her capabilities and passion.

“I have been given the space to use my creative mindset and evolve my own role through projects and responsibilities that forced me to stand on my toes and grow through my job. 


I’m proud to work for LEGO Education which is committed to making a difference in the world by reaching a great number of underprivileged children around the world with a meaningful LEGO experience that they otherwise wouldn’t have had. That makes working for me so endlessly satisfying on a personal and on a broader human level." 

“Together with educators in over 140 countries, we’re creating a generation of lifelong learners who are prepared to solve the challenges of tomorrow. A teacher in the United States told us that our products have helped her students with autism spectrum disorder improve their social communication skills. In China, they’ve helped children to develop their problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate. While some Brazilian children have gained more insight by learning about different cultures and perspectives."

**Awais Ahsan** agrees. He thinks back to when he was a child and how play and LEGO® bricks helped shape him as a person:

“I've always been a creative person. As a child, I loved to build elaborate castles, spaceships, anything I could imagine with LEGO bricks. As I got older, they became more than toys. I saw them as a tool for learning and creativity. 

“Having started my career in education and having taught STEAM subjects in the classroom for a decade, I was so excited to join LEGO Education. Our products use LEGO bricks to teach kids a variety of subjects, including math, science, computer science and engineering.

One of those people could be **Ruthie Ousley**, who also has a background as a middle school science teacher and STEM teacher educator. After four years in LEGO Education, she’s still finding ways to grow and explore her potential:

“This is my fourth role at the company. I started out leading our professional development program with our US customers before moving into product development. Right now, I work closely with the leaders of our global product portfolios. We’re exploring opportunities for their longer-term product roadmap, maybe three to five years out. I also take on cross-portfolio strategic initiatives, like which external partnerships might grow our impact on learners and educators.

“I’m particularly proud of my contribution to establishing the next phase of our product strategy for our in-school and early learning product portfolios. This is now coming to life through the work of our product development teams.

“One of the things I love most about my job is that I get to work on products that make a difference in the lives of children. The vision we have for learning through play at school is probably not what most of each of our school experiences were like most of the time. I feel inspired by the opportunity to make more of the time that children spend at school memorable learning experiences."

Every day is a learning day at the LEGO Foundation. Three of our colleagues are here to take us on a journey through its work. Let’s start with **Experience Designer, James Norwood**:

“There’s a lot of crossover in my work here and with what I was doing in front-end design at the LEGO Group.  I spend of lot of my time working on experiences that use the brick and non-brick manipulatives plus digital and conceptual solutions that help support our work of promoting the importance of learning through play. The brick though still remains such a powerful tool for supporting understanding and empowering Learning Through Play. But the marked difference is the contexts in which we work and design for. It’s been an incredible journey of learning and discovery, also knowing the impact we have on children’s lives in the many countries we work in.  

A great example was the play initiative we came up with during COVID. We wanted something that would engage children and encourage play. Logistical challenges necessitated we keep things super simple, so we devised something that worked using just a sheet of paper. We called it the “playpaper”. Since then, we’ve co-designed a number of these with our partners at the LEGO Foundation, Sesame Workshop being one of them. This contributed to the distribution of “playpapers” to children living in migrant communities in Venezuela. It’s so rewarding to see how learning through play can have a direct and profound impact on children's lives.  

It’s through the power of play that we aim to empower curious minds. This is what inspires **Diego Adame** to work here. **As Head of LEGO Ecosystem Collaboration**, he has a crucial overview of how this all comes together:

“The power of play transforms children's lives. I believe in this passionately and the LEGO Foundation gives me an opportunity like no other to pursue it. We believe that every child has the right to play, and that play is essential for their learning and development. Working with partners, we make learning through play more accessible and inclusive for children around the world. We do this by funding research and programs and advocating for the importance of play.

“Part of what I enjoy most about my role is seeing the whole picture in the LEGO Ecosystem and connecting the dots across teams. There is so much talent and genuine passion here. We are lucky enough to call upon some of the brightest minds, not only in education and child development, but beyond. Working here is an opportunity to learn from and collaborate with these experts - and they come from all over the world.

“What you can do here is equally varied. Beyond the LEGO Foundation, we collaborate across the entire LEGO Ecosystem. We bring evidence about the benefits of learning through play into action, for example working with colleagues to adjust the way products are designed or the way we support the local communities where the LEGO brand has a presence.

Someone who has discovered the variety of what you can do at the LEGO Foundation and the collaboration across the LEGO Ecosystem for herself is **Senior Corporate Counsel, Line Bruun Christiansen**:

“I get to work on a wide range of cases and projects, within legal and compliance that support and safeguard the LEGO Foundation – it can be from IP law and data protection regulation to charter compliance and contracting. I function as the legal business partner to our Learning Through Play team which encompasses Research, Design and Facilitation and to our South Africa and Mexico teams in the overarching Children’s Learning and Development team meaning that I really “get around”. I also get to work in collaboration with colleagues in other entities in the LEGO Ecosystem and in KIRKBI which I very much appreciate and value as this gives insight to the larger ecosystem and how we are all connected and interdependent.

“Two of the things I love most about my job is that I get to work with people from all over the world, from different cultures and backgrounds, and that I get to learn so many different things: from the latest research on child development to the latest trends in educational technology. I also very much appreciate the spirit of playfulness at the LEGO Campus and the LEGO Foundation neighborhood and among my LEGO Foundation colleagues.

“But the single biggest reward is seeing the impact that the LEGO Foundation's work has on children's lives. It is a meaningful job and it makes me happy to know that I'm playing a small part in helping children to develop the holistic skills they need to succeed in life.”

Unlocking the Power of Play at the LEGO Foundation

Our Consumer and Shopper Engagement Team (CSE) handles over three million queries from LEGO® fans every year and we respond to consumers in over 22 different countries. From building tips and advice on the latest sets, to troubleshooting and tracking down rare parts, we cover a huge range of topics, which makes every day totally different. 

They’re the first point of contact for our customers, and always meet them with a big smile and friendly tone. Every day is different in our CSE. Some days you’re tracking down an order, others you’re helping to fix Thor’s hammer after it got smashed by a cat. Thankfully, our Customer Service Advisors are the type of people who love solving all kinds of brick-based problems.

We’re growing every day, and we can’t wait to share some of our thoughts about working at the LEGO Group with you.

“I was recommended by one of my friends. He keeps telling me what a great company the LEGO Group is and how fun it is to work with so many talented colleagues. You can ask anyone if you have any questions, they’re always happy to help. I couldn’t resist temptation, so here I am.”

“My favourite LEGO set will be The Roses. Simply because this was made by my daughter for Mother's Day, so it holds a lot of meaning to me and I really love it”

“Working at the customer service of the LEGO Group is for me working in a fun, friendly and international environment. You can come as you are and I am sure that you will feel immediately at home. We have a lot of activities. We have Lunch and Learns, meditation sessions and we also organise team building events. We also go out for dinners or organise pub quiz or karaoke nights.”

“I would say that the thing that surprised me the most when I started working at CSE is how relaxed the environment is. Everyone is super chill, there's time to have social chats, people have lunch together and honestly, I was really positively surprised by the entire culture and atmosphere”

“Customer service in the LEGO Group is fun. Our job is fun. Literally, the people we're talking with are interacting with the LEGO Group because they or someone they care about is wanting to have fun with LEGO products. We get to support that”

My favourite part? It is literally talking. I can talk forever and I love it when fans reach out and talk about what they're currently building, what they want to build in the future, what are their favourite things, what is my favourite theme? They want to know. Sometimes some of those contacts are just truly, truly, truly inspiring.

“Doing things that haven’t been done before comes very easily to my colleagues here. Many organisations struggle with innovation, but here I see that for my colleagues it’s the most natural thing. There’s creativity in action every day. That we’re here to do new things, whatever shape they may eventually take – a product, an experience or a marketing campaign.

“Leading the brand communication strategy for our 90th-anniversary campaign was incredible. Particularly because of the impact it had and also because it stretched in many wonderful ways across every part of the brand experience. It was also such a huge privilege to be able to celebrate a brand of such stature while charting a path for its future. It’s not every day that you get to do this kind of work.

“Becoming a mother 9 years ago shaped how I saw the world – it showed me the very same every day things but from my incredibly creative, curious and fearless son’s lens. He asks the best questions and leaves me with the most impressive answers. At the LEGO Group everything we do is with children in mind. Learning from children and how they see the world teaches me the most. Here at the LEGO Group we always say ‘Children are our role models’ and it shows up in our work every single day. Getting to hear their thoughts on what we do and on the world around them is a constant source of inspiration. I absolutely love every chance I get to ask children questions and see how they play. It’s near impossible to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow without playing and having fun ourselves.

“I got to attend my very first ‘Play Day’ last year. I’d never experienced anything quite like it! Imagine playing all day with your colleagues, watching everyone hop, skip and build shoulder-to-shoulder. It served as a reminder of the joy and value of play – and as grown ups it’s a reminder we need often. Play Day is one of the most meaningful traditions in the company that stems from our values, that we hold so dearly. In our team meetings we always make room for play. Even our meeting rooms have play prompts, because how can we possibly get to incredible things unless we start with play. 

“One of the most rewarding things about my job is that I get to create new things with teams from very diverse areas of expertise. A typical day can include working with the LEGO Foundation, LEGO House,  LEGOLAND, LEGO Education, design teams, content teams and more. I can’t think of a job where you get to build alongside such incredible talent and share in the responsibility of building such an iconic brand. Everyone here wants to do their life’s best work. When you’re working to build on a brand that’s so strong and successful, you have to strive even harder to make a difference and leave a legacy through your work. 

“We’re doing our best to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow. That’s a really valuable mission. One that made it very easy for me to make the decision to move to a new continent with my family in tow. And it’s a decision I’d make again in a heartbeat."

“My role is brand new to LEGO Design, the parts were already here but it made sense to bring the various strands together into one. It means we’ve grown from over 200 people to around about 560 with over 54 nationalities represented, that’s amazing! I am on a journey of facilitating and creating a sense of community, which is an exciting opportunity for me to be leading on. Finding out what community means for all in LEGO Design and what brings us together energises me every day.

“We’ve covered a lot of ground but this is a journey, not a race. We’ve found ways to innovate and drive a creative community through events like Creative Boost. Everyone in LEGO Design takes the week to focus on developing innovative design solutions for products, concepts, and play experiences. At the end of the week, all the ideas are presented at a Creative Boost Exhibition and reviewed by the LEGO Design Leadership Team, with the possibility to go into further development or be absorbed into existing projects.

“I have a mantra. It’s a simple expression of why we’re all here and runs through LEGO Design: ‘we nurture and celebrate our creative culture’. It’s an ideal we all need to share. It’s something we orientate ourselves around. For me, community is all about having a safe space, where everyone feels included and recognised - and that begins with knowing who each of us is and what that means. 

"Living this includes our new initiative, “Belonging Begins with Us: a LEGO Design Journey,” an ongoing initiative focused on cultivating a culture of inclusion and belonging in LEGO Design. Building a more inclusive future is not just about a one-off event, but about creating ongoing opportunities for reflection, dialogue, learning, and action. It’s about having an open-mind and being receptive to new ideas and change. Or as simple as just sitting down and sharing a coffee. The point is to come together, to listen and learn.

“Every day is a school day for me. Especially as I’m still only less than two years into my role. But this is a learning organisation which has a lot of history. 90 years of it in fact. I’m a very curious person working for a brand that thrives on this quality. So, for me, having the freedom to experiment and being able to collaborate with all these incredibly talented people is an amazing experience. It is a little bit about trial and error. But if you don’t try, you don’t know, right? This seems very rooted in the LEGO values. To be successful in my role, I have to listen to the feedback people have been brave enough and cared enough to share. 

"You know, in the same way, all the various parts of LEGO Design already existed, so do the parts of the culture and community that we’re binding together. We have such strong values, we share such a powerful sense of purpose in what we all do, and the threads are already there. We’re simply weaving them together into a new pattern - one that everyone is bought into. Not to conform in any way, but to share. That’s the important difference here.

“So when we decided to create a LEGO Design sweatshirt, for instance, all the vibrant colours of the LEGO bricks were represented. When we picked a day for us all to wear them, it was a way to celebrate a sense of community. Communities are at their best when they allow individuality to fly and everyone is taking and giving at the same time. It’s a small thing. But what is a community if not a group of smaller things coming together in a way that makes everyone grow? That’s what we’re all about, our North Star: Nurture & Celebrate our Diverse Creative Design Culture.”

Just imagine celebrating 90 years of play. Then imagine setting your mind to evolve play for the next generation. How we push the boundaries of what we do next with LEGO® bricks. This is the reality for **Senior Interaction Designer**, **Micol Galeotti**. It’s her job to take us forward and explore those possibilities. We think it’s fair to say she enjoys what she does.

“My role in the **Creative Play Lab** encompasses both physical and digital elements. It’s all about creating experiences that marry the awesome tactile feel of the LEGO bricks and what the LEGO system and physics allow you to create, together with the benefit of the responsiveness and immediate feedback that technology brings. The interactive experiences I work on aren’t just about you playing with LEGO bricks, it’s about LEGO experiences captivating you.

“When I joined four years ago, it was only supposed to be a six-week gig. I started out as a Consultant straight from school. Ten months later, I was still here and got a full-time offer that gave me the chance to relocate to London, which was great. 

“I get to experiment, figure out new processes, find out what I’m good at. I’m not going to lie, there can be some heated discussions. We’re a diverse team with varying areas of expertise. So what’s ‘best’ for design might not be what’s ‘best’ for manufacturing for example. But we work on the trade-offs to hit the sweet spot in between us all and deliver the absolute best.

“One of the things I was absolutely not expecting - and still cherish deeply - was the push for play. Not simply being allowed to do this but being pushed to do so from every level of the business. I guess it makes a lot of sense. You have to have fun to create fun, right? It’s all part of the job. It’s the freedom I get here that I love too. I can fully be myself - and when that self is a loud, cheerful Italian who can hardly ever shut up, that’s saying something. But it’s not only fine, the team loves it. We have great camaraderie. So I feel comfortable and confident to be me. That matters. It creates an inspiring environment where I can really flourish.

“I’m like a kid in a candy store. Imagine being able to walk around a warehouse-sized room filled with all the bricks you can possibly imagine. Or getting to play with stuff that won’t be in stores for, what, two years maybe? That’s awesome.

“One of my proudest moments happened in a kids test earlier this year. To make sure we develop products that kids want and like, during the design process we invite some of them in to preview what we’re working on. That way we can gather their feedback to improve our products. I was quite nervous about this particular test. It involved something I’d been working on for months. The seal of approval from kids is, like, the ultimate accolade. They tell it how it is - no holding back. So when these two kids totally got what we wanted them to do, did that and understood what they got out of it, it felt amazing. I couldn’t show it in the room but there was a tiny me inside screaming and dancing. The researcher and I exchanged a look that said it all. It was a magical moment of joy, pride and validation.

“Being an Interaction Designer here right now is very exciting. By making the LEGO System in Play interactive, we’re inspiring and developing the builders of tomorrow in a whole new way. It’s keeping us as relevant and as fun as we’ve ever been and I’m helping to create the future of play. Making sure that it’s truthful to the ever-evolving needs kids have, as well as our values. It doesn’t get much better than that."
