“When there are endless possibilities, how can you not feel inspired”🌟✨ Meet Software Engineer, Bianca. 👩💻
As a student, Software Engineer, Bianca, was inspired by her experience of working with the LEGO Group. It became her dream to enable curious minds to feel how she had felt. She joined us at LEGO Education in April 2021. This is her story.
“I first came to Denmark in 2015. I moved here from Romania to study at VIA, a university in Horsens. This is where I had my first experience of programming. With the help of an NXT robot, I learned how to follow a moving object. That was the moment I realised how big of an impact LEGO sets can have in students’ lives. Perhaps more importantly, it showed me how easy it is to learn complex topics while having a lot of fun.”
Since then, she has been driven to contribute as much as she could to the next generation of products. Why? Quite simply because she wanted to share with children the sense of wonder she had while learning how to programme a robot.
“I'm super proud to say that my dream came true. I got accepted as a Junior Software Engineer at LEGO Education and I’ve not looked back since. To begin with, I was working on the development of Spike Prime and Spike Essential - key learning tools in the area of Robotics and STEM.
“This is what gets me out of bed every morning: the fact I can impact children's lives in a positive way with projects I've helped to develop. It also helps that I’m part of a superhero team with developers, designers, content creators, and others. Each of us brings our own unique powers to create something truly awesome. Ultimately, we’re helping children learn and making teachers’ jobs become a bit easier.”
So what does this involve?
“I use programming languages that bring applications and websites to life. Technology changes so quickly. Which is great! But it also introduces new problems that we may have not foreseen. It’s my job to solve them and ensure that the curious minds we inspire have a positive digital experience. This means creating trouble-free, stress-free applications that take the pressure off teachers. So, they can do what they do best - teach, engage, inspire.”
Creativity is a key part of what we do as a business. But how does Bianca bring this to her work?
“Well, by embracing the iterative nature of software development. This allows me to improve my code incrementally which, in turn, drives innovation in what I do. Creativity comes through in helping with planning team events too - that and coming up with playful missions and activities. These inspire the team and promote trust while building better relationships. Team culture plays an important role in being a productive team!”
“It’s also there in play. Experimenting with different coding methods, libraries and tools helps me to think more creatively. I learn new skills all the time and find innovative solutions to problems. This keeps me motivated and enhances my problem-solving skills, contributing to my success in delivering effective solutions.”
Does she ever get to see her work in action and how does this make her feel?
“Oh yes, I get to visit schools and engage with both children and teachers. They learn together through playful exploration and LEGO Education products are at the heart of this. For me, it's about empowering students to explore and think critically. This is how we solve problems in fun and engaging ways. It helps prepare students for life and the challenges they may face. - what could be better than that.
“I'm proud that my work brings so much joy to the learning experience - what could be better than that.”
