Let’s find out just how the Botanical Almanac can help to sow seeds of joy in your favorite people’s lives…

Behind-the-scenes guide

Did you know that no two LEGO Botanicals designers approach creating a set in the same way? “Some sketch, some build 3D models. Some build in ‘real’ colors, others build in contrasting colors so they can better see shapes come together,” explains Brittany McInerney, the book’s editor.

Brittany and her team interviewed five designers behind the LEGO Botanicals range for the Almanac, so you can be sure it’s blooming with insider knowledge. She adds, “I took home incredible lessons that I could use in my work as an editor. It’s all about creativity, joy, passion and fun – whether you are building or doing any creative pursuit.”

Curated information

It’s no secret that the LEGO Botanicals line offers the chance to create gorgeous floral displays that will outlast any shop-bought bouquet. But with a tailored range of quality, immersive LEGO Botanicals sets on offer, it’s nice to have a helping hand in choosing your next set.

Brittany McInerney explains, “Designers think of so many things as they go – the shapes and colors are so important, but so is the act of building! In the end a set needs to be beautiful, clever and fun to build.”

For instance, did you know the petals of the LEGO Botanicals Sunflowers (40524) are actually yellow canoe oars? While the petals of the LEGO lupin are made up of pirate hats from classic minifigures first released in 1989?! You could say this book is a treasure chest of information. Ooh arr.

Hand-drawn art

From cottage garden favorites like the LEGO Botanicals Daffodils (40747) to the LEGO Icons Wildflower Bouquet (10313) and more exotic plants like the LEGO Botanicals Bird of Paradise (10289), there’s certainly some magnificent flora included in the Almanac. But each flower was made even more beautiful by illustrator Nina Pace, who hand-drew each Botanicals set depiction in the book.

Alongside these gallery-worthy pictures, there are sleek lifestyle shots showing just how the LEGO Botanicals range can brighten up any home once complete.

In fact, Official LEGO Flower Expert Astrid Sundorf Christensen even explains how the LEGO Botanicals range came to fruition, after she wowed her colleagues with her creative flower arrangements.

Fantastic floral facts

Know your Papaver from your Bellis perennis? Fear not, because with the Botanical Almanac you can be one step closer to impressing everyone with your knowledge of Latin flower names for plants like poppies and the common daisy.

Each page of the book comes with a curated description of the plant and its Latin name, key details about the LEGO Botanicals set plus some handy information on the life of the plant.

From the best method of sewing larkspur seeds to uses for dried lavender, there are plenty of fascinating floral titbits.

More of a houseplant parent than a gardening guru? Don’t worry, there’s a whole section dedicated to succulents, too!

Lots of care was taken to weed out the flora facts from fiction, Brittany McInerney explains, “We looked for fun and lesser-known facts and had an expert check our work! For the LEGO element information, we relied on our incredible partners at the LEGO Group for part usage info and Easter eggs.”
Who doesn’t love a bit of juicy info? With the Almanac, the LEGO Botanicals world really is your oyster… Enjoy!
