Sustainable materials research
Having a positive impact on the planet is very important to us and you might have heard that we invested £120 million to establish a Sustainable Materials Centre at our headquarters in Denmark. This new centre focuses on exploring new sustainable materials for packaging as well as LEGO® bricks.
Our long-term vision states that by 2030, we want to have identified and implemented sustainable alternatives to the current raw materials used for our LEGO® products. This does not mean that we want to replace plastic. We want to find sustainable sources to replace our current oil-based raw materials so the plastic we use can be made from sustainable or bio-based raw materials.
In our search for more sustainable alternatives, we collaborate with companies and institutions that develop materials with a reduced environmental impact. The alternatives should offer the same safety, quality, durability and play experiences as our current materials.
