Troubleshooting LEGO® Technic™ Control+
Having problems with your LEGO Technic Control+ set or the Control+ app? Want to know more about how they work? You’ve come to the right place! We’ve put together the following tips to get you moving.
Smart Hub not turning on
If your Smart Hub doesn’t turn on at all, it’s a good idea to give it some fresh batteries (you’ll need six AA batteries to get it powered up again). When the batteries are getting low, your Smart Hub will show a flashing orange light. Just remove the bottom panel on the Smart Hub and replace it once you’ve swapped the batteries..
It’s always best to use batteries that are all the same brand. You can use rechargeable batteries. Just make sure they’re fully charged.
No movement or not moving as expected
Once you’ve checked the batteries, look at the motors and the plugs that go into the hub. Make sure the plugs are firmly connected to the right ports and that the motors can spin freely without anything getting in the way.
You may also want to check your building instructions to make sure you’ve built everything in the right way. If you’re missing a piece or a brick is in the wrong place, something might have gotten stuck.
If that doesn’t get things moving, close and then reopen the app and run the in-app calibration. You can access this by tapping on the menu icon on the top left of the display, and then tapping the spanner icon on the bottom left.
Checking the connection between the Smart Hub and your device
You’ll need to turn on Bluetooth and enable Location Services on your device so it can “talk” to the hub. When your device is connected, the light on the Smart Hub will turn blue.
Bluetooth will work for up to about ten meters (33 feet) in open areas. If the batteries are low or there’s something getting in between your device and hub (like pets, parents, or even other LEGO sets), the Bluetooth connection might be weaker. Make sure there’s a clear path between your device and the hub.
Once you’ve connected the app and Smart Hub, they’ll remember each other the next time you open the app and turn on the hub. You can take out the batteries and put them back to reset the hub.
Purple blinking lights and firmware updates
You may see a purple blinking light on the Smart Hub or get a message in the Control+ app saying that a firmware update is available. The firmware runs the Smart Hub and we sometimes release updates to make improvements or fix bugs. If you start an update and it doesn’t finish, you can just run the update again.
Turning off the Smart Hub
The Smart Hub will automatically turn off when it’s disconnected from the app. If you want to turn the hub off, you can also hold down the button on the hub for about ten seconds. You’ll see the light blink white rapidly. Once you release the button, the hub will turn off.
