What are plants made from plants?

Plants from plants are the first LEGO® elements (trees, leaves and bushes) made from a plastic produced using sustainably sourced sugarcane. The elements represent a big step toward our ambitions of using sustainable materials in all core products and packaging by 2030.

The elements are made up of 98% plant-based materials. The sugarcane used to make the plastic is sourced sustainably with guidance from our partner, the World Wildlife Fund. It’s also certified by the Bonsucro Chain of Custody Standard for responsibly sourced sugarcane.

We’d never compromise our high safety and quality standards, so like all our other materials, this plant-based plastic will offer the same great play experience that you know and love. In fact, the elements are so similar to our existing plastic parts, you probably won’t be able to tell them apart!

As the LEGO Group wants our products to be durable and reusable and bring play value that lasts for generations, the plant-based plastic is not biodegradable.
