How do you build a career that inspires curious minds to do more? 💡 Meet Harold.
As our Loss Prevention Manager for retail operations in North America, Harold is responsible for ensuring our products make it safely into the hands of curious minds. This means his role is vital, both to store operations and the customer experience.
“I support all of the LEGO® Brand Retail stores by making sure our product doesn’t disappear before reaching the child they're meant for. I’m currently a one-person team but taking on the challenge of developing our loss prevention programme was such a unique opportunity that I grabbed it with both hands.”
Harold’s journey with us began with a gut feeling during his interview.

“The LEGO brand has a reputation for creativity and being a great place to work, but after going through the interview process it felt right on a deeper level. I knew, somehow, that if I said no, I’d regret it for the rest of my career. So, I went for it, and it paid off. The support I’ve received is unlike anything I’ve experienced. My people leader encourages me, my colleagues are always willing to help, and the company genuinely cares about its people.”
“I’m driven by creating a safe, fun, and productive environment and being here motivates me to do just that.”
Through his efforts to track trends and implement security strategies Harold has already started making a difference.
“I began a few trend-tracking processes which enables us to make more informed decisions. The progress we’ve made in a little over a year is amazing. Today we have a better understanding of how losses are occurring, supported by data. And as we continue to leverage the great minds at the LEGO Group, more data becomes available, leading to more insights, and better-informed decisions.”
Our ‘Best of Both’ policy, which promotes a healthy work-life balance, has been transformative for Harold.

“Before joining, I was on call seven days a week and it affected my family life. Since making the move, my wife has noticed a marked improvement in my overall happiness and well-being. She can see I’m where I belong. I think it’s because I’m doing something I can believe in. During my onboarding, I learned about some the charitable work we do, and to see what we do for the community is inspiring. We do a lot of work getting bricks into the hands of children who might not have access to them, and that really resonates with me. I come from the inner city and lived in poverty, so these initiatives hit home.”
Play, Harold has found, has become something that inspires him, both at work and his personal life.
“The whole concept of ‘Play’ allows your mind to be flexible and think outside the box, which is key in my role. It’s also therapeutic and that’s valuable. I take time out with my own children so we can build LEGO sets together. One of my proudest moments was when my nine-year-old daughter created mosaic gifts for her brother and sister. It filled the family with joy. The excitement on her face when she gave them their gift was priceless, and the looks of amazement when they opened their gifts, which was a mosaic of them, makes me smile just thinking about it.”
Looking ahead, Harold envisions a future where our mission to bring joy and creativity to children is fully realised.

“Our job is to get LEGO bricks into the hands of children to explore, create, and learn through play, and into the hands of adults to keep the joy alive. I didn’t have this experience at home growing up, but we had buckets of bricks at afterschool care. I loved building cars and racing them with my friends.”
“For me, working here is about more than just a job—it’s about being part of something bigger. I’ve found more than a career; I’ve found somewhere to belong.”
