What is LEGO® NINJAGO®?

Launched in 2011, LEGO NINJAGO takes place in a fantasy realm and is a popular LEGO theme that embraces escapism, imaginative play and all things adventure. It coincides with LEGO NINJAGO’s long-running TV series and story which revolves around a group of ninja – Arin, Sora, Jay, Nya, Cole, Kai, Lloyd and Zane.

Trained by Master Wu (an ancient mentor and the Master of Creation), these skillful ninja are tasked with keeping their beloved NINJAGO world safe from the forces of evil.

LEGO NINJAGO has inspired 500+ sets, 200+ television episodes, a movie, theme parks, video games and millions of NINJAGO fans across the globe. Cool, right?

Who is LEGO NINJAGO aimed at?

LEGO NINJAGO is aimed at kids and pre-teens with the target age of 7-9 years old. However, LEGO NINJAGO has a large fandom of all ages that has grown bigger over years.

The LEGO NINJAGO building sets vary in age. From master builders aged 14 years+ exploring NINJAGO City Workshops (71837), to mid-builders aged 9-12 years constructing the Arc Dragon of Focus (71836), to junior builders aged 6 years+ embarking on Kai’s Mech Storm Rider (71830) build, just to name a few.

The LEGO NINJAGO movie and TV series are rated 7-8 years+ and, like many action-packed cartoons featuring good-vs-evil combat, they are generally suitable for children 7 years and older but may be hard to process for those 6 years old and younger.

What development benefits do LEGO NINJAGO sets offer?

LEGO NINJAGO sets reiterate the important NINJAGO message and values: everyone has untapped potential and greatness within them, and the NINJAGO theme helps kids to unlock their full potential. Building the world of LEGO NINJAGO at home strengthens and empowers imaginative play to the max – something we proudly champion at the LEGO Group.

However, LEGO NINJAGO sets go beyond imaginative play. They inspire kids to overcome challenges – whether physical, mental or social – by fostering the right mindset and attitude – all delivered in a fun, ninja-themed package!

Why do kids love LEGO NINJAGO?

Firstly, it’s cool… really cool! Kids are drawn to LEGO NINJAGO because it’s an action-packed adventure filled with thrilling battles, intense ninja training and exciting missions. The relatable and diverse characters, who work together as a team, teach valuable lessons about friendship, loyalty and collaboration – making it even more enjoyable for kids to watch their heroes overcome obstacles and grow together.

And let’s not forget the fantasy world and creative storytelling! The rich NINJAGO world, brimming with imaginative settings, ancient artifacts and mythical creatures, fuels endless creativity. Who wouldn’t want to build an Arc Dragon of Focus (71836) or unleash the power of the villainous Thunderfang Dragon of Chaos (71832)?

What type of play does LEGO NINJAGO encourage?

LEGO NINJAGO inspires a wide range of creative play! From imaginative pretend play – recreating characters, mythical creatures and adventurous stories – to competitive and social play, such as using the sets to build arenas for challenge-based games. Many sets also feature mechanical elements like spinning functions and moving parts, introducing kids to basic engineering and robotics concepts. Through this hands-on play, kids naturally develop cause-and-effect understanding and STEM skills!

Is LEGO NINJAGO made for kids?

The LEGO NINJAGO sets and TV series were originally designed for kids. However, they can also be enjoyed by adults, particularly the more complex LEGO NINJAGO constructions, as well as the character dynamics and development within the LEGO NINJAGO TV series.

Does LEGO NINJAGO have swear words?
