Family playtime creates precious moments – moments that are invaluable for both children and adults alike. And that’s where LEGO® Build Along comes, well, along. It’s a concept designed to bring parents and children together in a shared building experience.

A new way to build

Helping your youngster with their LEGO builds makes for great family play and top-tier teamwork – particularly when using LEGO Builder and Build Together! But let’s not forget, LEGO bricks aren’t only for kids to enjoy! In fact, we have an extensive, exciting range of 18+ sets designed to inspire adults to get building, too! 

The concept of LEGO Build Along introduces these more complex sets into family play, so that parents and children can unite in a building experience that's fun, creative and challenging for everyone.  

So, how does it work…? 

Simple-yet-super-effective, parents and kids sit down to build their own LEGO sets side by side – a set that matches their age and/or skill set. And the key to the shared experience? The LEGO sets are based on a passion or interest they enjoy together! 

For example, if you and your family love music, choose two music-themed sets. You could build the LEGO Grand Piano (21323), while the youngster tucks into the LEGO Friends Andrea’s Musical Duet (41309). Great work, Maestro!

Or perhaps you share a passion for painting? If so, have your little one piece together the LEGO Friends Emma’s Art School (41711), while you take on the challenge of the LEGO Mona Lisa (31213).

Why is building together and sharing passions important?

There are endless benefits to collective, creative play – especially for kids! This is why we encourage and support collaborative building, not only through Build Along, but also through the new Build Together feature on the LEGO® Builder app. 

Playing together is often more fun for children. But there’s even more to be gained from group play, and that’s where Build Along comes in…

As parents and children sit side-by-side on their model-making missions, they truly unite in a fun, playtime experience. How to get started with LEGO Build Along

By now we hope we’ve convinced you to join in the fun with LEGO Build Along! So how do you get the ball rolling…? 

First, find the interests and passions that you share together. Are you fantasy fanatics? Globe-trotting enthusiasts? Or perhaps sports superstars in the making?

The next step is to choose the LEGO sets best-suited to you both, considering age, skillset and experience and then you’ll be ready to get started! Set up a dedicated building space to make yourself comfortable and it might be an idea to pre-plan some regular build-along sessions into your family’s schedule. That way, you’ll safeguard the time each week for having creative fun together! 

As you continue your building journey, document your progress with photos and videos. Not only will these enhance your shared experience, but one day they’ll become heartwarming memorabilia of all the fun you had together! And don’t forget to have a joint celebration when you’ve completed your LEGO sets!
