Data Science at the LEGO Group
The Data Science & AI team is a Center of Excellence for data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence at the LEGO Group. Our objective is to drive value at scale for the organization, by automating or facilitating decisions based on predictive and prescriptive analytics. We are structured in cross-functional product teams, working closely with the rest of Digital Technology at the LEGO Group.
We are part of the Data Office, a hub of data practitioners across the LEGO Group. We promote data literacy, ethics and good governance, and are ambassadors for the responsible use of data to drive growth.
Overview of the role
We're looking for a Lead Data Scientist to join our Data Science & AI team.
This role is embedded within the Audiences Relationship Management (ARM) product team, which is responsible for driving targeted and personalized marketing activation.
As a Lead Data Scientist, you will be the voice of Data Science, and you will be responsible for designing and leading the implementation of machine learning and AI models within this team. You will also be responsible for contributing to the alignment of the architecture of all data science solutions in the personalization and membership area. This will include also recommendation systems.
Core Responsibilities
As part of this role, you will be responsible for:
Model Development: Lead the development of machine learning models to improve shopper interactions on our LEGO digital platforms, drive engagement, and ultimately increase conversion rates. Examples of models that will be developed within the ARM product team include Propensity Models and Next Best Actions models.
End-to-End Model Lifecycle Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of each new model developed, from problem definition and data collection to model development, deployment, and performance monitoring. Implement model updates and optimizations based on feedback, data changes, and business needs.
Collaboration & Mentoring: Work closely with product, engineering, and business teams to ensure alignment of machine learning models with organizational goals. Lead a cross-functional team in the development of models and into production environments. Mentor and guide other team members in best practices for model development, coding standards, and technology.
Leadership: Collaborate with other product teams to drive consistency across different solutions and identify opportunities to drive efficiencies. Be a strong voice for Data Science within Digital Technology at the LEGO Group to ensure technology and product decisions consider Data Science needs. Build a strong relationship with business teams to strengthen the Data Science and AI team, the Data Office and Digital Technology image across the LEGO Group.
Data Strategy & Innovation: Drive innovation by exploring new methodologies and technologies to improve modelling accuracy, scalability, and efficiency. Stay updated with the latest trends in machine learning to ensure we remain at the forefront of predictive modelling and AI.
Location for this role is London.

Do you have what it takes?
You come with a background in one: data science, statistics, mathematics, economics, or equivalent quantitative subject area.
You are familiar and willing to learn and explore a diverse range of technologies:
Programming languages - SQL, R, Python
Data Processing Libraries- Tidyverse, SparkR, PySpark, Pandas, etc
Data Platforms - Databricks, R-Studio
Engineering Tools – Github, AWS, Terraform, DBT
Data Visualisation – Power BI
You have a strong experience in supervised and unsupervised learning, classification, regression, and clustering techniques. Ideally you have experience with Customer Analytics, Propensity models, Next Best Action models, Life-time value models and Customer Segmentations.
You are familiar working in a product led/agile framework and in a cross-functional, multi-location team. You can clearly communicate with other team members, data scientists, data engineers and product manager, regardless of their professional background. You are collaborative and can positively push other team members towards positive outcomes.
You can build a strong relationship with stakeholders and translate complex technical content to business audiences. You can leverage a strong domain knowledge in the personalisation and membership space to understand business needs and translate them into solid technical solutions.
You are familiar with Customer Data Platforms, CRM systems and complex data environments.
You are eager to learn, both through your day-to-day job and through self-driven initiatives.
You are willing to travel occasionally (less than 20% overall).
Fluent in English both written and spoken.
