4 Tips For Your LEGO® Build Experience

4 Things to Consider for Your ultimate LEGO® Build Experience

Make the most out of your LEGO® build time with these helpful hints and tips…

Ready to immerse yourself in a quality LEGO set? Want to feel the ultimate satisfaction when you’ve created a brick-built masterpiece? Well, we’re here to help you get the most out of your building experience and to set you on the path to discovering your favorite way to build.

From choosing the right space to build in and the perfect set for your needs, to setting a building schedule that best fits around your life, considering all these things in advance will boost all the mindful benefits (and fun!) LEGO building has to offer.

So, without further ado, here are some key things to consider before you get started…

Choosing your space

Don’t worry – you don’t need an entire room dedicated to LEGO building. Whatever the size of your home, you can definitely carve out a space for your creations.

First, let’s think about the environment. Are you happy to set up shop in a shared area, like at the dining room table? If so, consider when the other people in your house might need to use it and only get out one bag at a time so it’s easier to pack up.

Or would you rather a quiet space to retreat to? A spare corner in your office, a coffee table under a window, or a patch of clear workspace in a garage could work. It’s your space – do what’s right for you.

Organizing your environment

You know the old saying; tidy building space, tidy mind. Okay, maybe we made that one up. But the logic stands!

No matter what location you choose, there are ways to make the space function even better for your build experience.

Firstly, use your set’s sticker sheet as a bookmark to mark your place in the instruction manual between sessions AND keep it safe. That way, if any wandering hands/paws make their way into your build space, you won’t lose your place! (That’s a special insider tip from a LEGO employee, by the way – treasure it!).

Empty the bags from sets into shallow-rimmed containers or bowls – something that allows you to spread the pieces, thus reducing rummage time. There’s also way less chance of your bricks ending up on the floor. Phew!

If you have space, you could also consider investing in some brick storage containers to keep pieces organized and safe. And one of the best tips we can give you? Spend a couple of minutes at the end of each build session storing your bricks so they don’t get lost. Every set has spare additional small pieces, so have a container at hand to store these in. Trust us, future you will thank you!

Time management

Life. Is. Busy. Just when you think you’ve got a spare evening, WHAM – someone sends you a last-minute invite… Yes, we know it’s nice to be popular. But it’s also important to schedule more quality time for you.

Why not start scheduling in some building time at the same time each week? Perhaps a Tuesday and a Thursday evening, for 30 minutes? Even just half an hour of immersive building time can do wonders to lift your mood. If you don’t want to be against the clock, then decide beforehand which bag numbers you’ll build in each session.

Top tip: remember to take time to study each instruction step, using the ‘Parts Required’ box at the top of each page is a good way to prevent missing bits.

Selecting the right set

If you’ve got a huge area to build in, then indulge and buy that giant set. But if space and time is limited, hold back, buddy!

Before starting, it’s important to think about where you’re going to display your finished set. Which room will it go in? What’s the light like in your chosen corner? You want this to be a centerpiece – not an eye sore.

The same goes for skill level. If you’re just starting out and want a build that will leave you cool, calm and disconnected, start with something on the easier side. If you’re looking for a more intense challenge, try a LEGO Icons set.

Choosing the right set to fit your environment, skill level and availability really is key to being able to switch off and enjoy your hobby.

We hope these tips help you enjoy your hobby even more! Got any tips of your own? We’d love to hear them!
