LEGO® Fortnite® Leitfaden für Eltern

LEGO® Fortnite® Odyssey® Parents’ Guide

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey is a game set in a vast open world that inspires players’ endless creativity within a familiar, safe and secure environment.

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey combines the LEGO Group’s iconic minifigures with LEGO bricks and elements inside of developer Epic Games’ Fortnite. You even download and start playing LEGO Fortnite Odyssey through the existing Fortnite launcher. Head to the LEGO Fortnite category in Discover and select the LEGO Fortnite Odyssey tile to begin playing.

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey isn’t Fortnite Battle Royale with minifigures. It’s an experience that combines the best of both worlds, and anyone can download and play LEGO Fortnite Odyssey for free, alone, or even better, with friends.

What is LEGO Fortnite Odyssey?

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey focuses on long-term survival, crafting and online cooperation with friends. The mix of those ingredients is up to players, which is why LEGO Fortnite Odyssey includes four types of adventures – Survival, Sandbox, Cozy and Expert modes – each of which offers a different way to play, and all of which we’ll explain below.

By default, every LEGO Fortnite Odyssey world is unique. They’re filled with mysteries to discover, scattered throughout areas like the Shorelines, Frost Lands, and the cool shade of forests of the Grasslands.

When players explore the wild worlds they create, they’ll discover friendly inhabitants – many characters and creatures come from Fortnite, in fact – as well as animals like cows and sheep built from LEGO bricks and elements. Players can discover less-than-friendly inhabitants too, like wild wolves, spiders and even pirates!

Some players will prefer to focus on adventure. They’ll harvest elements to craft the best weapons, team up to explore dark and mysterious caves full of loot and enemies and tackle epic boss battles. Other players may focus on finding, building, expanding and leveling up villages, inviting visiting villagers to move in, assigning them jobs and working together to tame their wild world. Still other players can specialize in building, preferring the simple pleasures of constructing their own LEGO creations and populating the world with prefab creations that snap together seamlessly. The possibilities are as endless as each player’s creativity and imagination.

That’s why LEGO Fortnite Odyssey is the best of all worlds. It combines the familiar terrain of Fortnite and the beloved bricks and elements from the LEGO Group to create vast creative playgrounds and standalone adventures for players who get to play in whatever way makes them happy.

What Is a Survival world?

In a Survival world, players become the hero. They gather resources, build structures, craft tools and weapons, fight enemies and explore a vast, open world that’s as beautiful as it is challenging.

A Survival world’s built-in challenge is that players must gather and craft what they need to survive. Players take wood from trees and turn it into campfires, torches, axes and shovels to gather more resources, as well as swords and shields to defend themselves.

The more they build, the more they learn. The more they learn, the more building blueprints they unlock to build ever bigger and better things.

What Is a Sandbox world?

In a Sandbox world, it’s like every player has a bottomless box of LEGO bricks and elements. Instead of worrying about wild wolves guarding the forest where they’re collecting wood, players can just build a log cabin – no collecting or fighting required.

From players’ earliest moments in a Sandbox world, it’s all about crafting and expressing themselves without needing to fight enemies or harvest materials. They can even take to the sky, superhero-style, to explore the map.

What Is Cozy mode?

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey’s Cozy mode is perfect for players seeking a balance between a mild challenge and a focus on building, farming and creating a vibrant, happy village. When players start in Cozy mode, they'll meet a cheerful character who guides them through establishing their village and embarking on adventures. While combat is still part of the game, enemies are easier to defeat, making survival less of a concern.

The settings for Cozy mode in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey are customizable. With hunger, temperature and stamina turned off by default, players can explore freely without worrying about food, shelter or rest, allowing them to enjoy lighthearted building and adventuring.

What Is Expert mode?

Expert mode offers a challenging experience designed to test players' abilities. This mode elevates the difficulty of a Survival world, presenting tougher enemies and incorporating a permanent elimination feature.

In LEGO Fortnite Odyssey Expert mode, the difficulty is significantly increased: regular enemies become more formidable, and players face the additional threat of encountering dangerous Storm-Wild enemies. A majority of the default settings in this mode cannot be altered to reduce the challenge. For example, the enemy difficulty level is set to hard, and hunger, temperature and stamina settings are always enabled so that players are aware of the need to recover one's resources.

Equipping a Totem of Return will help prevent players from being eliminated from Expert mode, where running out of hearts and being eliminated is permanent for that particular world. However, if a player is eliminated in this mode, they are not permanently eliminated from all of LEGO Fortnite Odyssey. Players can still explore other non-Expert worlds or create a new Expert world to try again.

What Is a LEGO Fortnite Island?

LEGO Fortnite Islands are new experiences that arrived in Fortnite a few months after LEGO Fortnite Odyssey’s initial release. Instead of focusing on survival or building in vast open worlds, they offer new ways to play with LEGO minifigures and elements in smaller, more focused and directed experiences. And some of those experiences come directly from the LEGO Group.

For example, in the LEGO Group’s LEGO Cat Island Adventure, players arrive on what the game describes as the “purr-fect place to explore with a furry friend.” All players need to do is run around, find their adorable cats and make them happy. Players and their furry little friends can explore the beach and waterfalls – all while deepening their bond. You can learn more about LEGO Islands in a separate guide.

What are LEGO Kits?

LEGO Kits arrived in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey with an early 2024 game update. They’re an optional part of LEGO Fortnite Odyssey available for purchase. They include creative items inspired by LEGO Building Sets and Fortnite. Players can even share purchased LEGO Kits and their cosmetic add-ons with up to eight of their friends’ worlds per week.

LEGO Kits are purely decorative items. They do not offer any gameplay advantages.

LEGO Kits include items like:

  • Builds are generally large items like buildings.
  • Building Parts are materials like the walls, floors and windows that make up the included Builds.
  • Decor items are themed decorations like decorative chairs and umbrellas in a beach-themed LEGO Kit.

We can use one of the first LEGO Kits as a way to explain how they all work. The Beachside Boulevard Bundle includes 8 Builds (and all of the Building Parts that make up the Builds) and 44 Decor items. The optional purchase includes the Beach Pavillion building, a Beach House and a Lifeguard Tower. The Shore Shack Build looks like a beach shed. It’s the perfect compliment for Decor like beach chairs, surfboards and umbrellas.

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey purchases use Fortnite’s in-game currency called V-Bucks. No matter what platform you buy something on, content purchased with V-Bucks is available on all devices where you’ve linked the account through which you made the purchase.

Each platform processes its own payments. For example, the transaction to purchase V-Bucks on an Xbox Series X uses Microsoft as the payment processor. Android (Google Play), PlayStation®, Xbox, Nintendo Switch™ and Windows have parental controls settings.

As a parent, you can use Epic’s parental controls along with platform-level controls to manage your kids’ in-game purchases for items like LEGO Kits. LEGO Kits are optional, decorative add-ons, and there is plenty of free content in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey.

New physical LEGO Fortnite sets include bonus digital item

LEGO brought Fortnite to life with the launch of four physical sets: Battle Bus, Peely Bone, Supply Llama, and Durrr Burger. These are the first-ever LEGO sets based on characters, locations and items from the game, blending digital and hands-on play.

Some sets come with a bonus digital item – the Operation Brite Starter Pack – for use in LEGO Fortnite! You can learn how to redeem it in a separate article.

Where can my kids play LEGO Fortnite Odyssey?

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey is available for your kids to enjoy on a variety of platforms, including popular gaming consoles like PlayStation and Xbox, as well as mobile devices, Android globally and on iOS and iPadOS in the European Union. Whether your child prefers gaming on a console or using a mobile device, LEGO Fortnite Odyssey is accessible and offers engaging gameplay experiences across these platforms.

How can my kids download LEGO Fortnite Odyssey?

For consoles, you can find LEGO Fortnite Odyssey by visiting the respective digital stores and searching for LEGO Fortnite Odyssey on these platforms to get started:

For playing on mobile devices, you can download LEGO Fortnite Odyssey from the Epic Games Store.

Playing LEGO Fortnite Odyssey with Friends

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey's worlds allow eight players to jump in simultaneously in one world, and having a community is the best way to play the game. Players cooperate to build, harvest, gather and overcome challenges. Each player is stronger and better with friends.

When players first create a world, it’s fully private, which means no other players will be able to join unless the world owner invites them. There are no “public” worlds in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, and there’s no way to join someone else’s world unless a player gets an invitation from one of their friends. While many LEGO Islands are designed as public multiplayer experiences to be enjoyed with friends, they can also be played solo.

Before players can invite other people to join them in their worlds, they need to be friends in Fortnite. World owners can also invite their friends to be a “key holder,” which means their friends can access and edit the world anytime, even if the owner is offline. Remember: Guests can build or tear down any creations, so it’s important to have a good think before your child decides which friends they want to share their world with!

The LEGO Group expects everyone to play responsibly and follow Epic’s rules, which means there is no room for offensive content in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey worlds. If players see something inappropriate in a world, we encourage them to report it using Fortnite’s easy-to-use reporting tools so Epic can take action against content and players that violate the rules.

Setting up parental controls

Fortnite has extensive in-game parental controls that allow adults to manage their child’s experience in the game. Each platform on which the game is available – for example, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Windows – also offers its own parental controls.

You can access them online in the Epic Account Portal and also in-game using the Fortnite Parental Controls menu. Here’s how to access that menu in-game:

  1. Launch Fortnite.
  2. Open the main menu (which looks like three horizontal lines), and select the gear-shaped icon.
  3. Select Parental Controls and enter your six-digit PIN code.

From the Account Portal, parents and guardians can customize their parental controls to create an age-appropriate experience for every member of the family. Notable parental controls include:

  • Voice and text chat permissions: You can manage who your child is able to speak with using Epic’s voice and text chat. You can select options like Friends Only, which only allows your child to speak with other players in their Epic friends list and gaming platform friend list, or you can disable chat entirely.
  • Purchasing settings: You can require that your parental controls PIN is entered before real money purchases are made using Epic payment.
  • Require your PIN for friend requests: You can require your PIN to be entered before your child sends or accepts Epic friend requests. Since worlds are private to players and their invited friends, this control empowers you to manage who your child can interact with.
  • Fortnite Content Ratings: In Fortnite, every island has an age rating, and you can determine which islands your child can visit based on those ratings.

Note: If your child is playing on a console, then you may also need to set controls for purchasing, communication limits, friend requests and more in that ecosystem. For example, if you turn off voice chat in Fortnite, your child may still be able to access voice chat using the chat system built into their console.

Epic parental controls require you to set up a six-digit PIN through the Epic Account Portal or the Fortnite Parental Controls menu. The PIN ensures that only you can make changes to those settings.

Chat features

Voice and text chat is available in all Fortnite islands, including LEGO Fortnite Odyssey. You can update your child’s voice and text chat permissions at any time and choose to allow your child to chat with:

  • Everybody: All players
  • Friends and Teammates: Players on their Epic friends list, their gaming platform friends list, and players on their team.
  • Friends Only: Only players in their Epic and gaming platform friends lists.
  • Nobody: chat is disabled

To see the settings that manage the text and voice chat settings, open LEGO Fortnite Odyssey’s menu, click on the gear-shaped icon and navigate to the “Communication” tab. For accounts where the user is under 10 years old, “Friends Only” is the upper limit for voice and text chat settings.

Fortnite has a new ‘Personal Information’ text chat filter that helps remove certain types of information — like email addresses and credit card numbers — from text chat conversations in real-time. Fortnite has also introduced improvements to the mature language filter to better filter out various kinds of mature language and toxicity. Both filters will always be on for players under 13.

Fortnite’s voice and text reporting feature allows anyone to submit audio or text chat messages as evidence so Epic can take action against other players for violations of Epic’s Community Rules. For players under 18, the feature is automatically on in voice and text chats.

Getting started

An Epic Games account is required for your child to play LEGO Fortnite Odyssey. When creating an Epic account, if a player indicates that they are under 13 or their country’s age of digital consent (whichever is higher), their account will be a Cabined Account. A Cabined Account is an Epic account that’s designed to create a safe and inclusive space for younger players. Players with Cabined Accounts can still play LEGO Fortnite Odyssey but won’t be able to access certain features such as voice chat until their parent or guardian provides consent.

If your child already plays Fortnite, then they already have what they need to play LEGO Fortnite Odyssey. Just open Fortnite, and look for LEGO Fortnite Odyssey in the game’s menu.

You can also sign them in with an existing LEGO, Epic Games, Nintendo, PlayStation or Xbox account. If they don’t have one, we suggest creating a LEGO account and linking that to create your Epic Games account. You can also link an existing LEGO account to an existing Epic Games account. Regardless, linking your Epic and LEGO accounts unlocks LEGO Insiders or LEGO Insiders Club (for younger players) and bonuses like the Explorer Emilie Outfit, which includes that LEGO Style for your child’s connected accounts.

You can also sign into an account through the official Epic Games site to let Epic know who your child is across the many places where they can play LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, like consoles and mobile devices.

How to play with friends in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey

When you have an account set up and connected, adding friends is a simple process.

  1. Launch Fortnite, and sign into your child’s account.
  2. Select your child’s circular avatar icon in the upper right of the screen.
  3. Select the icon with the plus button on the menu that appears, which brings you to the Add Friends menu.
  4. Enter the Epic account name or email address of your child’s friend in the box provided.

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey has a feature called crossplay, which allows people to join in a match of the game no matter what platform they are on – including PlayStation, Mac, PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox. Crossplay is enabled by default, so it doesn’t matter what hardware your child and their friends have. They can all play together.

LEGO Fortnite Odyssey is a playground for players of all ages, whether they set out on daring adventures or spend their time building castles in the air. It’s all about fostering imagination and creativity. Playing together is the ultimate social experience in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey.
